By "compare" I meant "put in equal terms".
This might be a mistake in my English, as in my mother tongue (Spanish), I would have used this expression to say, well, what I was trying to say.

Re: Shibano Toramaru
The king is dead, long live the king.
Shibano is the new Kisei. The match went all the way and Ichiriki and Shibano had to nigiri for the second time. Overall, I think that Shibano did better. Even before the last game. The games he won, were solid. The games he lost... he started better than ...

Re: "Code Name: BlueSpot" pro vs AI handicap matches
In the pre-AlphaGo-era, some professionals claimed that they would always beat God on H3, or was it H4?
I think it was Go Seigen who said, "if I played god, with 2 stones the result would be uncertain, with 3 stones, I would be quite sure to win, and with 4 stones, I could bet my life on the ...

Re: Japanese pro earnings 2024
It is not that golf rewards better the 2nd player, 3rd player and so on. It is that, overall, there is more money in golf than in go. Big surprise.
The #1 players are making more or less the same. Not because the prizes are the same, but because the best player in go won a lot more tournaments than ...

Re: Japanese pro earnings 2024
However, the figures at the top are comparable.
The #1 players in go and in golf are comparable.
But #2 in go is below #10 in golf. There is a big difference in go between the top of the top and everybody else, while in golf, if you do better on the field you do better in the bank. But not so ...

Re: Amazon army
There is something new completely related to the Amazon Army and only to the Amazon Army. And that is the Japan female league.

Re: Amazon army
First post about the Army in the post DOOM era.
The world Senko Cup was just held. In case you don't know, it's a Japanese tournament (4 players) with a player from China, Korea, Taiwan, and an amateur (winner of amateur Senko Cup of the year before). So it's called a world title. But to me... that ...

Re: Following Nakamura Sumire
A lot happened since last post!
Main points should be:
- Sumire won a tournament, Tengen. Unlike Japanese Tengen, in Korea it's for young players. A bit like King/Queen of new stars. Simple knock-outs. I don't know much, but it was at least 4 rounds.
- Sumire was promoted to 5 dan.

Re: Amazon army
I hadn't seen this yet, but Kato Chie 3-dan qualified for the C league of the Kisei after 5 prelim games.
Although this year she will be the only member of the army, it's good to see that different women have made it these last years, and it's no longer a rarity. The level is rising.
Let's hope ...

Re: Following Nakamura Sumire
Sumire played and won a league game in April 16th. I don't know if she is in more than one league.
Anyway, this was her 100th since she moved to Korea, barely one year after her first game since she transferred (March 3rd, in a different league).
Overall record in 100/58. How is this compared to ...

Re: Harsh penalty for using phone
A few years ago, Kim Eunji got another penalty for cheating. I don't remember the details (surely, someone here remembers pretty well), but she got away with a one year sanction, and her professional status like nothing had happened.
Many people don't forget this, and some fans don't want to see ...

Like I said, Iyama winning the first games in not good news for Ichiriki. In all 4 games so far, Iyama has got an early lead. Big lead ...

Re: Following Nakamura Sumire
140 points, averaging 2.5 points/win requires 56 wins.
Most games are worth 1 point. In 2024, starting in March in Korea, she played 26 4-point games (10-16), and 106 1-point games (73-33). Besides, 4-point games are usually against harder opponents. So in the end, it will take more games than ...

Sumire 3-dan is now Sumire 4-dan
Thanks to https://gorisenri.livedoor.blog/ , we can follow her progress.
She played in the GS Caltex Cup and won 3 games. One of those earned her the last point she needed for the promotion. But it was unclear (again, according to Gorisenri) whether ...
