Re: Where can I buy porcelain Go stones?

If it helps, it is very easy to buy porcelain stones in China. They are also very cheap, like maybe around 2-5$ a set. I have never found any on the internet though.

As a side note, porcelain stones are pretty fragile, I've broken a few (2 or 3) just by playing with them. But as a group, when I ...

Re: Pink Yunzi

Well these stones are kind of old. I got them five years ago. But I don't think any of my stones have been out in the sun for very long if at all.

I am not even sure what causes the green rings in the first place.

Pink Yunzi

Hi everyone,

I was playing with my yunzi today, and one of the black ones felt lighter and thinner than the others, which I thought was very strange. At first I thought I might have mixed it up with one of the Korean black glass stones, so I held it up to the light to see if it had the green ring ...

Re: YMI Bamboo board + Single convex yunzi fit

I think that YMI gets this stuff from China, and this type of set is a very common cheap set in China, so I think that it should work. I bought a board that looks very similar when I was in China, and I use it with the jade luster Yunzi ( http://www.ymimports.com/p-1487-jade-luster-yunzi ...

Re: Out of stones

I've heard of this happening once in a professional tournament in Japan. One of the recorders had to run to get more stones from a different room; apparently, you can still lose by time, and both players were in byo yomi.

This was like long before I was born though; I heard it from my teacher.

At ...

Re: I am in a slump, please help.

I found this game very interesting.

Here's some comments:

Move 8: I found this kinda funny, he didn't play Q18 because he didn't think you would reply. So does that mean he thought you would reply to L17?

Moves 19 and 21: This gives me the impression that you are winning by a lot. I think you ...

Re: How to learn to count during midgame

My teacher taught me a way to count for blitz games. It is accurate by about plus or minus 10 points, which is a lot, but the counting time can be less than a minute. It is really quite simple, you make a rectangle that fits the area you are trying to count and multiply to find the area of it ...

Re: Size of stone

You can feel the difference between 8.5 mm and 9.2 mm, but the difference between 8.5 and 8.8 is really very small. I doubt anyone would be able to distinguish between them just from playing with them.

Re: Counting practice exercises?

Why not just get a random pro game that you know ends within 5 or so points and count that? You can count it at the end position to start, and slowly take some moves off and estimate. As a bonus, you also get to learn good endgame moves.

Re: Northern Utah Go Club

Hi, I'm from the Salt Lake Go Club, and I didn't hear about this. I'd be happy to help if I could.

We are still here, but the guy who used to take care of all the club stuff moved, and we were in transition for a while.
