Re: Nvidia RTX 30xx

Well, Ryzen 5000 have been unveiled a few days ago and it seems they are superior to Intel CPUs in every regard, even in single-core performance, the aspect where Intel has been dominating so far.
Just chiming in to say in case you go for a Ryzen, consider the RAM frequency as well! From what I know ...

BadukTV Livestream Down?

For quite some time this year, BadukTV has been streaming their Go-TV-program live again on their YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_kyhuCGhgbur6g7NJ_Nrqw .
However, it seems this stopped 1-3 days ago or so. It did not migrate to their secondary channel https://www.youtube.com/user ...

Re: Experimental LeelaZero: 0 komi and high handicap

Hm, any idea whether "0 Komi" includes "0.5 Komi" ie the default Komi for handicap games?
From my understanding, this little divergence should get easily interpolated on by LZ, so it should just work (tm) - except if the Komi value is hard-coded in that binary for some reason of course(!).. Did you ...

Re: Lizzie - the Leela Zero UI

Lizzie hardcodes the "./leelaz" command. I wanted to run an SSH command though to connect remotely to a more powerful machine, using my notebook merely as a terminal. So I made a little patch to allow arbitrary commands in lizzie.properties file:

lizzie-master\src\main\java\wagner\stephanie\lizzie ...

Re: Euro Professional Qualification Tournament

Since watching live has proven to be impossible for me (the WBaduk registration procedure is too slow and I am waiting for a checksum of the installer, to start with the PC security problems I am going to try and possibly overcome), I wonder if the games will at least be published.
Not sure what ...

Euro Professional Qualification Tournament

This friday the first round starts in Strasbourg. Now I was wondering whether anyone knows why they suddenly chose to show the games on the korean WBaduk server instead of KGS. After all the CEGO-reviews, games and "Euro Dream Team" training were actually on KGS so far.

By the way, the information ...

Re: unprofessional behavior from KGS admins during/after jub

The results are unfortunately within the range of "normal" for people assuming spare time admin jobs. Being admin puts a very high strain on your psyche, causing those who aren't professionally trained personnel sometimes to go bonkers ("AHAHA YOU NOTORIOUS TROLL WE GOT YOU GOOD" email) or turning ...

Re: what do you do about a slump?

When teaching statistics I explain that if everyone in the world tossed a hundred coins then there is a very good chance that someone would get 100 heads. If you were that person then I doubt very much that anyone could convince you it was simply by chance.

Thanks for this very nice post about Honte. The attachment of Karigane intrigued me a lot, if anyone else is interested in that game, here is a commented kifu viewable/downloadable from gokifu.com:

Re: Who banned me? For how long?

1) From what I know the duration of the ban is omitted on purpose, to make the whole thing more annoying to the banned person. I won't cite sources, sorry.

2) Again from what I know, admins may be able to see which other admins banned whom, but will usually not speak up against other admins or to ...

Re: 21st Century Dictionary of Basic Joseki

You mean a whole dictionary or just books like New Openings of the 21st Century by Kim Sung-Rae from Yutopian. Currently Yutopian sells vols 1 and 2 in English and vol 3 in Korean.
I was thinking a pretty comprehensive dictionary like Ishida/Takao.
But something like the Kim Sung-Rae books would ...

Re: 21st Century Dictionary of Basic Joseki

I had a few tests that I wanted to run (i.e. a few biased expectations). Basically the Takao version failed on all counts. So I am wondering what others think that have been reading/studying in the meantime.
Things I checked:

..stuff..

I loved Ishida when it came out, just as I started playing Go ...
