Re: In praise of handicap games

I felt the same way, so I've decided to give this a try as well. I played one game earlier like this, which turned out pretty fun because of a huge ko that came up

Slate and Shell shipping costs?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I was considering ordering some books from Slate and Shell and I couldn't get any information regarding their shipping costs. It said to send an email to their customer service, but I did that a few days ago and I haven't gotten a response. I live in Canada ...

Re: Yet another fighting game

Fair enough! I guess the only way to learn to swim is to go into the water, if I ever get the chance, I'll give the double approach a try!

Re: Yet another fighting game

Thanks Ed, I was thinking about doing the double approach, but I wasn't sure how I would go from there. For some reason I thought I could make more liberties when we were in the capturing race with the chains of three stones each, but playing it out I would have died. I guess my opponent thought the ...

Yet another fighting game

This game I beat my opponent pretty handily, but I was looking for comments on possible shapes my opponent could have exploited to turn it around. He also wanted to have it reviewed, so tips for either side would be appreciated. Also, please ignore move 97 on my part, it was extremely stupid, and I ...

Re: 10k vs 11k fighting game

Thanks Oso, I usually don't play very aggressively, so I didn't think of a lot of the variations you showed. Always good to get the opinion of someone close to your own strength as well!

Also, blade90, I'm not sure I understand how to convert them still. Do I enter the URL for the game with sgf ...

Re: 10k vs 11k fighting game

It sure was an act of desperation, I missed the proper sequence and then my opponent made a mistake which saved me. Not a good way to win! I'm pretty sure the sequence that would have saved me would have started with white 151 at Q10 rather than P9, forcing white to go down to P9 himself. Then White ...

Re: 10k vs 11k fighting game

Thanks a lot Ed, I appreciate you going over my games so often! I didn't realize my shapes had those weaknesses, except for the top left one, I don't know why I left that alone for so long. I guess some of my plays were kind of greedy, when I should have just played more solidly instead of worrying ...

10k vs 11k fighting game

An 8kyu I had played against recommended trying the opening I went with, but since I'd never played it before (I rarely even open with a 3-4 point), I didn't know how to respond to his approach.

Thanks guys, I never thought about that. I haven't had anyone disconnect yet, so I thought he was just being impatient.

Re: playing fast is wrong

Did you feel that you needed to play fast because your opponent was playing fast? In a game I played yesterday, after I was thinking of what move to play for 30 seconds my opponent typed "....", and that irritated me for the entire game. It made me want to win badly, sure, but I wasn't thinking ...

Re: Most recent game

Hey, thanks a lot guys, I never noticed the weakness in the shape he was making with his 3-3 invasions. I thought I did block the right way at first, but I should have anticipated the wedge, I was trying to map out too big an area I guess. Not killing that group on the left was kind of dumb of me as ...

Most recent game

I haven't been playing much recently, I don't know why. I haven't really felt like playing, but the game is always on my mind. I've been trying to find some people around the 20kyu range to help out a bit, but I'm not a great teacher. Anyways, my desire to do something Go related got the better of ...

Losing streak

So I've kind of been in a bit of a rut lately, I've lost my last 9 games by pretty significant amounts (the one before this was against the same person, I lost by about 67 I think), and I'm not exactly sure why I'm doing so poorly. In this game I think I put off a move like N 11 for too long, and ...
