New post per result is best, imo because it allows commentary and a record of the standings. But do what's easier, I guess.

I agree with hyperpape. The games aren't so frequent that just posting about them will create a flood. If you find automated methods easier, that's great too.

Should we try discussing the games in this thread, or start a "fantasy league game analysis" thread?

Am I too late to make an entry?
I don't actually have time to make real decisions, so:

Lee Sedol

My understanding is that you can enter any time. There may be restrictions on getting points from ongoing elimination events to avoid having extra information because you know how early rounds went, but that shouldn't apply since we're only one day in.

I like the idea of having discussion about the games, I haven't had a chance yet to look at the Kuksu final game. Let's try having the discussion in this thread, and if it feels like announcements and such are getting swamped we can move it. I still don't really know how high-volume this thing will be...

Daniel: you're not to late to enter, you just won't get points for the [edited out Kuksu] Myeongin finals. More generally to anyone wishing to enter: the next scheduled event is the LG Cup quarterfinals on Nov. 21st, so any time before then if you want to get those points.

Two more results came in yesterday: the Myeongin semifinals results. Baek Hongsuk and Park Yeonghun are going to face off in the finals. Judging by the sparsity of his SL page, Baek Hongsuk hasn't won any big titles yet, I wonder if this could be a breakthrough for him.

sgfs of games:

points earned by pro:
Park Yeonghun : 3
Baek Hongsuk : 3
Cho Hanseung : 2
current player standings:
jordus : 6
prokofiev : 5
Laman : 5
Araban : 5
topazg : 3
marcus : 3
lovely : 3
lindentree : 3
hailthorn011 : 3
daal : 3
hyperpape : 2
Stevenson : 2
daniel_the_smith : 0
Barrauss : 0

Araban, I removed Ko Gentae and Na Hyun from your list. Barrauss, I removed Takao Shinji.
OK, I'm off to look at the Park Yeonghun win :study:

Baek Hongsuk has been one of the top 20 players in Korea for some time now. I've been following him ever since he won the New Stars Best Ten title in 2006 and he's been one of my favorite players to watch. He has a sort of sharp style and his fighting ability is some of the best.

He's come close to winning some titles, most recently finishing runner-up in the Asian TV Cup against Kong Jie. Younggil commented that game here.

This also isn't the first time Hongsuk has met Park in a finals: they faced off in the now discontinued Kisung (Kisei) in 2008.

I hope he wins, because he deserves to have a title. Plus, it would help my team ;-)

Although it will be tough. Park has been strong since the World Meijin title earlier this year.

Everyone else is getting a pass on the Kuksu final, might as well give Daniel the same. The competitors were announced back in October, so we all (could have) known them ahead of time.

Good point. Only the Myeongin finals should be counted out. Of course, It should be too late to claim the win Cho Hanseung already played!

Is the Oza going to count? There's a game tomorrow.

And thanks for arranging this, emeraldemon. It seems like it ought to be easy, but we keep complicating it.

Game discussion:

Take a look at white 38 in the game between Park Yeonghun and Lee Taehyun posted by Emeraldemon here.
What in the world was the idea behind that?

What in the world was the idea behind that?...
Generally when :b2: is played in response to :w1:, the exchange of :w3: for :b4: before jumping to :w5: is one of the basic continuations. Black is not going to respond with 4 at "a" as that means White has closed off the slide at the bottom. When Black descends at :b4:, the gap at "a" helps White. The peep at :b6: is part of the flow. Black wants White to connect at "b" in which case Black will jump to "c" and attack White's stones while erasing the potential to the left. Naturally White resists at :w7:. Usual is :b8:, threatening to cut. White would typically exchange :w9: for :b10:. This combined with :w3: protects the gap at "b" in sente. Two weeks ago Sakai Hideyuki played along these lines against Kono Rin in the NHK Cup on Japanese TV. Black's jump to "c" in the game posted above is unusual as far as I know. It allows (invites?) White to play in at 8, which protects "b" without allowing Black to strengthen the right side.

Cool, Baek Hongsuk has just earned me as many points as he cost me. :)

I'm really enjoying this league already, emeraldemon. Thanks for organizing!

Choi Cheolhan won game 4, but Cho Hanseung won game 5 and took the 55th Kuksu title!

There's a nice article on gogameguru, so I will just link to that: http://gogameguru.com/cho-hanseung-wins ... ksu-korea/

Updates: prokofiev, Laman, & Araban are tied for the lead with 11 points each.
