Magicwand:
Did you consider just connecting for your previous move, rather than playing the atari? If so, why did you reject it? From what I've heard, connecting is often best in this situation, forcing black to patch up his weakness on his own. At the same time, I can guess reasons why you would rather atari here. Could you quickly explain your choice here please?
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

if he answers atari then i will connect.
then i believe that atari is a plus for me because it will make black heavier and give him less option.
does that make sense?? :-? :-| :?: :?:

Hi, Chew Terr. First of all, I didn't read out all of the variations, but just enough to feel comfortable with being able to live. I have a good degree of confidence, that is.

Since there are a lot of variations, I'll only go over ones that correspond to the response Magicwand made.

Here are some possibilities (though, perhaps not optimal):

I haven't read all of this one out, but it seems easy to make life in the diagram above.

Ideally, I want to play with the following first move, but I am afraid of black's response shown below:

$$ | . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . |
$$ ---------------------------------------[/go]

I feel like there might be a way to live, but it is not totally clear to me.

By playing the move I'm going to, I can either live easily, or have a reduction into his territory that is either sente, or lets me dive deeper in.

Thanks, Kirby. Nice to see your plans. Even if it doesn't end up being exactly what happens, getting inside a stronger player's head really does help.
Someday I want to be strong enough to earn KGS[-].

In a few moves, it's going to look like black played an endgame reduction about 150 moves too soon.
That which can be destroyed by the truth should be.

Looks like your plan to seal white in is a big success and he'll only live very small. White got incredible strength in the center but what do you plan to do with it? I have always problems when it comes to using thickness. Can you explain what you're planning and where do you expect to gain points in the end?
After Black is sealed in, the lower left corner and the lower side are looking empty, what is the right direction to play?

Sonoda Yuichi points out that stones with that kind of relation are positioned to make eyes (like a diamond shape). And making eyes is a major concern for Black. I do not really have any experience with focusing on that kind of relationship, but :b1: certainly exploits it. :)

Wow. Such a "diagonally connected" relationship between stones is something I never considered. My brain has just been enriched with a new way to think about sabaki.

When in doubt, play the most aggressive move

this stage of the game it is very hard to find a place to play.
i roughly counted black 35 white 25. i am still behind but i have some influence and black has one weak stone in the middle...so i am thinking we are about even.

i am planning to probe at 1. if he tenuki and play 2 i play 3.
this will create nice structured moyo for white.

overall knight move approach to lower left look like a key point in this game.
it will put indirect pressure on one stone in the middle. i can not attack 1 lonely stone because it is so light. i will have to build some more influences and wait till right timing to attack.
