White Vengeance Lots of Go

Post by mogosoup »

Just finished watching a relatively new Chinese move called White Vengeance about the fall of the Qin Dynasty. The movie had lots of go scenes. Although some of the boards looked like 50kyu vs 50kyu.

I've heard of the Chinese fuseki but never about a relatively new Chinese move as you have described. \
Any pro games you would recommend us to learn that move from?

i have seen that movie as well. It seems like the idea of Go to the producer is to capture some stones, and call that a win. There were several scenes and hints that capturing a lot of stones mean the same as win. shame shame.

I wouldn't be that quick to criticize. I would first like to see the evidence we might have, to what extent the game as played more than 2000 years ago resembled the modern game and to what extent differed. Possibly a matter of some dispute?

Reminds me when I rewatched "A Beautiful Mind" a few months ago after having learned Go. There's a scene where they're play Go in the middle of the Princeton campus.

If you take a look at the board, it totally undermines the premise that they are all mathematical geniuses. Especially the main character. He's got uber poor reading ability lol.

Yeah. He runs off saying that the game is flawed because he had the first move and his play was perfect... Immediately after putting 20 of his own stones in self atari.

There is a cut-scene where he spends like a whole day looking at an empty board.

I theorize that the original intention of that poor dialog is to imply he discovered the need for komi.
