Does anyone know why the Japanese entrants do not include Yamashita Keigo, Iyama Yuta, or Takao Shinji? My off the cuff guess would be that the three of them, along with Cho U, would constitute the four strongest Japanese players.

EDIT: And on the Chinese team, I would have expected Kong Jie to be seeded.

I would say Yuki Satoshi and Takao Shinji are fairly close in results. Sakai Hideyuki is also up there. I'm guessing since Yamashita and Iyama are busy with Honinbo right now, it's just too big a distraction. Except for those two, I think you have the top level Japanese players participating. I'd like to see Hane Naoki over Yoda Norimoto, but he has had good international result previously.

How does the pairing work? Is there a random draw, like the drawing of slips of paper with numbers on them in Hikaru no Go?

Over the past decade, six years, Cho's results in international competition are actually better than Hane and Takao.

And Hane is a bit stronger than Takao, it seems.

When people say that pros are "too busy" with this or that, is the issue that the schedules for the games actually overlap, or that they don't want emotions coming off one tournament to interfere with the next, or that they cram material that will help them fight off their adversary....?

This one is easy this time...

LG Cup 6/17,6/18,6/20
Honinbo 6/18-6/19, 6/24-6/25

Other times pros have all kind of league matches to fit in to schedules.

Ah, from the pictures, the pairing method is to choose a fan with your opponent's number on it. A little classier than the pieces of paper in the shodan tournament in Hikaru, but same idea.

In the pictures from Oro, who is the player with the wrinkly blue polo shirt and sweatpants?!
