No need to fuss, I just thought I'd suggest something that might be an improvement to what is a very nice competition as it is.

Attempting now, I'll just edit this post with my answers.

Alright...

Here are my first feelings... Since I don't have time to go too in depth here.

1. Definitely a kyu game... Using my clubmates as a reference, probably around KGS 6k.
2. Ok... I'm pretty sure they're stronger than I am. to me, the game looks like the messing around of two people with reading skill, but most of the game is momentum play. I'm... gonna call it in at KGS 5d. I think it even might be Sol's game.
3. Mmm... a strong kyu game? From the feeling of their reading abilities, and their shape... I'll call it at KGS 1k.
4. Someone who plays J4 is already stronger than the players in game 2 by a lot. Hmm... there's not much game before that untimely mistake... but, I'm gonna go out on a limb here... and say pro. Because I feel like Solch is trying to trick me here with the only uneven game, because of a midgame hallucination error.

Man... not confident about any of my answers...

Edit: What? It wasn't by 10 am? Man, I woke up early for nothing... I'd better win some of Solch's money now!

Wow, I am very surprised by the number of responses that came up in this thread. I guess people enjoy it more than I thought :). Overall it looks like people did pretty well (well...nice try Chew Terr! :P). I was especially amused by Magicwand's comment that he vowed no games were played by professionals ;). Liu Xing's games tend to be strange like that. It was a bit of a downer someone sourced one of the games, but meh it was expected and no one gets disqualified.

That said, congratulations to adoreme for getting the highest with 37/40 :). I'm pretty sure your KGS handle is the same as your L19 handle, but assumptions have killed me in the past so if you could just verify for me that it is indeed your KGS handle, then let me know and I'll KGS+ it (or if you have another account that you'd like me to gift it to, that works as well). If I made any arithmetic error, let me know so I can edit it!

Thanks again everyone for participating, it was fun reading all the answers and analysis! :D I'll do one again in the future with an even better prize.

My reasoning for the third game being
2k
was that it looked like one of my games, but I thought I was a little better than them.

Wow, I was a lot closer than I thought I'd be. Got the first game dead on. :D Second game was quite strong, so I'm not surprised I couldn't tell it was actually a pro game, though I did feel like it was really strong.

Congrats, adoreme!

Yeah, I rated it the same as you, because it only felt slightly stronger than I am. Game 3 was the biggest surprise for me.

Gah, if only I'd known that game beforehand!! :D

Seriously though, I now need to think why I treated that game as such a blind spot ... what a fun experiment, me wants another one! :)

Thank you,

I never thought I was this close to the solution. Yes My KGS username is also adoreme there. :)

The last game was very interesting only the last move dying like that was very strange but always remember Nakano's God hand:

I did some statistical analysis of the results. I noted some minor issues:

Firstly, either zingers individual scores or the sum is incorrect, since 7+10+9+1 = 27.

Secondly, how does one get points if the correct answer is pro? pro gives obviously ten points, but is 9d = 9points etc? If that is the case I believe there are some errors in points.

Anyhow, assuming that individual scores are correct, here are the overall results in descending order of points:

adoreme: 37 (9, 10, 8, 10)
wossname: 35 (7, 10, 9, 9)
freegame: 35 (8, 8, 9, 10)
odnihs: 35 (9, 7, 9, 10)
Stable: 33 (8, 7, 8, 10)
Harleqin: 33 (9, 8, 10, 6)
Marcus: 31 (10, 6, 5, 10)
Gene: 30 (9, 5, 6, 10)
Violence: 30 (8, 6, 6, 10)
topazg: 29 (10, 10, 9, 0)
Dusk Eagle: 29 (8, 3, 8, 10)
Jonas: 28 (8, 4, 6, 10)
daniel_the_smith: 28 (6, 10, 5, 7)
Zinger: 27 (7, 10, 9, 1)
Nikolas73: 24 (4, 10, 10, 0)
runaway: 24 (9, 0, 8, 7)
Darrell: 23 (3, 0, 10, 10)
Tryphon: 22 (9, 7, 5, 1)
Rafa: 22 (6, 4, 6, 6)
RedStick: 21 (7, 4, 0, 10)
fwiffo: 21 (9, 4, 7, 1)
rubin427: 20 (0, 10, 10, 0)
ketchup: 20 (4, 10, 6, 0)
kokomi: 20 (10, 5, 5, 0)
emeraldemon: 19 (8, 5, 6, 0)
nami: 18 (9, 3, 6, 0)
tj86430: 17 (7, 2, 8, 0)
SoDesuNe: 17 (7, 0, 10, 0)
Suji: 17 (8, 4, 5, 0)
gaius: 15 (5, 3, 7, 0)
Magicwand: 14 (7, 0, 6, 1)
Kirby: 14 (9, 0, 5, 0)
Biondy: 13 (8, 0, 3, 2)
Chew Terr: 0 (0, 0, 0, 0)

(personally I'm very proud that I didn't finish last, and that did better than e.g. Magicwand and Kirby)

The average scores of each question were:

1: 7.21
2: 5.15
3: 6.76
4: 4.44

The standard deviation for each question:

1: 2.51
2: 3.62
3: 2.55
4: 4.57 (almost everyone got either 0/1 or 9/10)
