Wow, this tournament is huge. Is it like an open or something? Anyone know more specifics about how it works?

There will be seeded Japanese players who will join the main tournament.

Yes, it's an open tournament. Even amateurs can join. This is just the preliminary tournament that will choose 16 of the 32 members of the main tournament.

It doesn't say "OPEN" but it looks like it.
328 players are participating in this preliminary.
19 players will advance to main tournament joining seeded players. 2 senior, 2 woman and 15 from rest.
In prelim, there are 220 from Korea, 65 from China, 26 from Japan and 17 from Taiwan. Also there are 12 amateurs.

Top 30 Korean ranking and 15 Chinese Ranking will be placed in each section evenly. So there is no easy way to advance to main tournament.

It is good opportunity for low ranker to meet good international players.

Seeded players;
Korea:Won Seongjin, Na Hyun, Baek Hongseok, Park Junghwan, Lee Sedol and Choi Cheolhan
China:Gu Li, Chen Yaoye, Jiang Weijie and Dang Yifei
Japan: Not yet submitted.
1 player selected by sponsor.
