At our level I don't think any teacher is really necessary. Reading a book + solving problems will rise your level. Of course if You can't break a barrier by yourself, or You have unlimited money, than having a teacher will help, but otherwise it is better to save the money for time when You will have higher level and improvement will be more difficult.

This depends on what you mean by "necessary." It also depends on the individual, the individual's goals and budget.Gorim wrote:At our level I don't think any teacher is really necessary.
Except the improvement in the future may be more difficult precisely because you didn't spend the time with a good teacher at the beginning.Gorim wrote:...but otherwise it is better to save the money for time when You will have higher level and improvement will be more difficult.
In other words, you may not be saving time or money by the delay; it could have the exact opposite effects.

Concentration is something that can't be taught IMHO. I would try meditation to improve concentration, also solving tsumego helps, but I guess it isn't the most effective way (having said that considering that tsumego solving is good for reading, than we can say that it is killing two birds with one stone).
When it comes to joseki I can't help, I'm weak in this department and decided to remain such until 1d kgs.

Re: A good teacher ?
Depending on who you want as a teacher (Professional, amateur) I had some lessons from this guy over the summer, Ben Mantle

http://senseis.xmp.net/?BenMantle
And they were great. Brought me up several ranks. If I had more time I would still be having weekly lessons
If you do email him, use the one in his signature, not the thread, the thread has an older one.
