They do exist. I don't know where you'd buy them in the US (where I assume you are since you're shopping at YMI)
If you look at Shin kaya boards on Google Images, you'll see a lot that have a more natural color, but they all seem to be from European stores.
I think I read that the yellow color comes from a particular method of curing the wood.

My goban.
I bought mine in germany (from Spain), you can see it in that thread. It's not yellow at all, the color in the picture is real (in my screen).

I looked on the website and I can't find it - can you link to the specific product? (I can't work my way around the German site very well).
Also, how much did it cost?

About the language, I don't speak a work of german and I did everything with the google autotranslation feature in chrome.
About the set, it was the EGC-Set. Maybe it was a limited series and it isn't there anymore. The set page is this one.
The EGC set included :
- a 45x42x3 shin kaya board with a 19x19 grid on one side and 13x13 on the other.
- two jujube bowls.
- yunzi biconvex stones.
- a bag for the bowls and stones.
I also bought the 8.5€ board bag (which was a good decision, it doubles as a 'table cloth' when I play.)
Everything came in a huge (half a dish washer size) box with the things floating in a lot of protective bags, so it all arrived perfectly.
If you're interested I'd suggest you just mail Steffi and Tobias at info@hebsacker-verlag.de, they are nice and helpful people (and they do speak english).
It all cost me: 132.50€ + 30€ shipping to Spain. Total €162,50 taxes included. I'll paste the info in german taken from the response mail, so you can ask for the same set:

I don't think it's there - it's a shame, because I absolutely love the recessed lines.Alguien wrote:snip
The colours, however, are better here than on YMI, so it's a definite plus. Thanks.
Edit: Did they specify the lines were engraved? I've never seen a website specify whether the lines were engraved or painted.

I think it was specified.
I'd send them a mail in case they still keep one stocked somewhere. It did look like a limited edition related in some way to the EGF. Maybe there's someone in the forum who knows about that.
It should be easy to see in a good picture whether the lines are engraved.
For example, in another board they have (http://www.hebsacker-verlag.de/go-brett ... -3747.html) you can clearly see in the pictures that the lines are painted.
I'm starting to feel really lucky I found my goban

Yes, it seems hard to find. Even when I google image search "go board engraved lines" I'm lucky if i see a goban.Alguien wrote:Annihilist wrote:I don't think it's there - it's a shame, because I absolutely love the recessed lines.Alguien wrote:snip

Thank you for your help - I think I'll shoot them an email and see what they have, although that board looks nice, I could go for that instead.

Re: YMI Shin Kaya
Board measures 18-1/4''L x 17''W x 2''H (46.5cm x 43cm x 5cm). I think is good colour and nice grain pattern.

I think it's Chinese standard, but to be honest I don't know.
the lines on a chinese board form squares. the lines on a japanese board form rectangles (just slightly longer than wide)

ExcellentI just bought that very board from YMI... and it seems I must have gotten the last 2" Shin-Kaya they had in stock, because it doesn't appear on their website as a purchase option since I made the purchase
That color looks quite nice compared to the earlier much more yellow ones.
Whoops! Spoke too soon. Looks like it's back in stock

Re: YMI Shin Kaya
This may be too late to be useful, but if you're in Sydney you could go to Younggil's Go School and get a nice shin kaya board, while also saving yourself the cost of postage. Maybe you'll even have time for a lesson while you're thereAnnihilist wrote:I'm in Australia - so Europe is as good as YMI (providing the website is in English).
(note: not the boards in the photo of the school, those are agathis, but with the same dimensions and with a whiter hue, like spruce should have)
If you're not in Sydney, we could also post one, which would save you a lot of money on international shipping. They're not up on our website yet, but they will be before the end of this month.
