What's up with the AGA ratings database? It seems to have been down for a while.

From what I remember reading, there were some webpage security problems that needed to be fixed, so it was taken down while they figured it out. It was discussed around L19 somewhere.

isn't this just a clone of the European Go Database? How are we having security problems and they're not?

The first time I saw the AGA database, I said to its owners. "Heh! You've just nicked the European one."
They assured me that only the frontend was similar, they had taken the backend apart and really improved it. Guess they forgot bout the safety part :)

It is a clone of part of the european database. Unfortunately I was informed that a number of the pages associated with how it works are left in the system and we decided to kill it. Since it is being written fresh we will look for security holes as we go to fix those. When its all written it will be open source (most likely) so the europeans could use it if they like it better. They also may not understand the holes in security from being inside. We had someone fresh look at it when we were porting to the new server.
