I think the KGS chatroom is sufficient. What you really need is some place on the board that shows how many people are in the chatroom (and maybe who they are). Might require some help from wms on that one (because I don't think the bot protocol allows the bot to enter a chatroom, even just for reporting purposes).koks9dan wrote:First, I think adding a chatbox would be awesome

Re: Ideas For Forum Features
another idea plssss
!
How about instead of pasting the code inside the tags, you allow users to upload the kifu and store on the host? And then you can just throw in a few lines of code to call the eidogo to read whatever attachment with the sgf format?

Journals
Yet another idea:
I'd like to see 'journals' like Slashdot has. A journal is basically a blog or one-person forum in which you can post things and nobody else can. ( They can post comments if you allow )
There are times - often when doing a game review - that I would like to refer to a fundamental idea that has been discussed repeatedly but is new to the beginner whose game is being reviewed. I can post a link to an SL page, but sometimes it has been edited. I'd like to have my own private storeage of essays on fundamental ideas. Then each time that a beginner needs advice on why an empty triangle is bad, I can just point him to it rather than rewriting it.

I thought it already does this (seems like there's a thread somewhere explaining it)koks9dan wrote:another idea plssss!

Re: Ideas For Forum Features
This is the only post explaining how to post a SGF file and it was what I mentioned above:xed_over wrote: I thought it already does this (seems like there's a thread somewhere explaining it)

That is, put the sgf code inside the tags =/
What I meant is to store physically the game records

Re: Ideas For Forum Features
There is a way, like xed_over said. I believe it was fwiffo that coded it and posted about it. If you use an sgf file as an attachment, you can then use the sgf tags with it. I don't remember where the exact post is, but it is doable.

Re: Ideas For Forum Features
It's easy.
1) In the "Upload attachment" area click the "browse" button, find your SGF file.
2) Add a comment if you want and click "Add the file"
3) Click "preview"
4) In the preview area's attachment's section there should be a link to your newly uploaded SGF file. Right click and copy the link
5) Paste it between SGF tags like so
6) Enjoy!
Note, this method is WAY better than pasting the SGF inline for quite a few reasons, so it should be the preferred way to go.

Re: Journals
Seems like a good reason to set up a personal WordPress blog?Joaz Banbeck wrote:Yet another idea:

Although I could see having a sub-forum for journals for people who don't want to set up a blog and would like to have forum-style discussions. You'd post a thread titled something like "Fwiffo's 2010 Study Journal" where you'd keep track of your study habits, games, etc. and other forum members could comment or make recommendations. We've had a few people post threads like that already, though there isn't currently a forum dedicated to it.
I've seen exactly that sort of thing on other forums (e.g. in a fitness forum people would post their workout logs, personal bests for weight lifted or running times/distances, etc.)

Re: Ideas For Forum Features
i am wondering if it is possible to make a link "copy to the clip board" instead of showing diag and copy manually?

Re: Ideas For Forum Features
My suggestion for the forum: lock this thread so new feature requests get their own threads and can be discussed individually instead of this weird, random mish-mash of interleaved conversations that is happening in this thread.

And don't forget to un-sticky it. I think most of the things have already been hit and taken care of, or they are on the To Do list over on senseis.ross wrote:My suggestion for the forum: lock this thread so new feature requests get their own threads and can be discussed individually instead of this weird, random mish-mash of interleaved conversations that is happening in this thread.

Re: Ideas For Forum Features
I think this is also a good idea, and taking into account the likes your post received and just the common-sense factor, I'll lock the thread so people can make new threads instead. And I also agree with schultz, but since I wasn't the one who stickied it I'll leave it to Kirby to decide on that one.ross wrote:My suggestion for the forum: lock this thread so new feature requests get their own threads and can be discussed individually instead of this weird, random mish-mash of interleaved conversations that is happening in this thread.
