I'm from Valparaiso, Chile, and i'm gonna tell you my story...
I found about go two and a half years ago looking for a subject to work on my master thesis. My teacher handed me a paper with a survey about AI in games, which was my main interest. Even though I was planning to work on some 'modern' type of game (rts or fps) i couldn't get past the second page where they mentioned this asian game that could not be played well by computers. I was inmediately interested.
I went to the computer to read about the rules and fell in love with the game the second i saw that picture in wikipedia ^^
Later that afternoon i had ping pong trainning, but i had enough time before it began, so I decided to go change my clothes in the "fancy" dressing room which was far away from my usual path. To my big surprise, walking along this route i shouldn't be walking, i see a small paper in a window... it read: "Go Club".
(fate... anyone?)There were only three members, but i didn't miss a meeting ever since.
Two and a half years later we have 14 regular members and we are also starting to teach on saturdays in a small "oriental arts institute" downtown. There we have 5 members so far, but hopefully will get bigger soon. There are no other go clubs here, so we have a lot of work to do!
