Sticky of moderators/admins

We should have a sticky thread that's kept up to date, or something. While we're at, it, remind me of the admin/mod distinction. Mods are supposed to be police, admins are plumbers, right? Or is it something different?

I can edit this post to make it complete, admins can edit it, or whatever else is the best approach.

Are these up to date?

This is already public information. Go to the main page, scroll down to the 'who is online' box. At the bottom of the box are two links, one in red, one in green. Click on those for the lists.

EDIT: Good, you found it. Yes, they are current. That is, the people listed on those links have the corresponding access. At any given time, probably half of the people on the mod list are on sabbatical, dealing with personal or work issues.

If you look at the 'mod' list, you will notice that all of the admins have mod access. Admin is a superset of mod, not a disjoint set.

Yes, saw that after I posted, unforunately. So that leaves three questions:

1. EdLee, topazg, and wossname don't have highlighted names. What are they?
2. Who is still active?
3. What's the mod/admin difference?

They are mods. They merely have not yet chosen to change the color of their names. It is a matter of personal choice.

...2. Who is still active?

Good timing on that question. Last year, near the end, I have been doing a roll call to see who was active. By coincidence, it was Dec 27th last year, and I was going to do it again on the 27th of this year ( tommorrow).

Currently I'm the only active admin in administrative matters. Jordus (aka Arkham King) has connection problems. Fwiffo drops in maybe once or twice a year, as does Adrian. Kirby has admin access, but chooses to use it only for technical matters.

EdLee, TChan, and Topazg are the only active mods. Chew Terr mentioned work complications about six months ago, and has been present only a handful of times since then. I haven't seen Tealeaf or Wossname around in a long time. Araban posts about once a week, but it is often about his career.

...3. What's the mod/admin difference?

Admins and mods differ in access. Mods can alter threads, mostly. Admins are a superset of mods: they have all mod access plus they can alter acccount privileges, change displays, and do all kinds of maintainance. Admins also have access to the code, so they can, in theory, change anything.
