First time posting a game record.

Post by thelanlegend »

I've never posted a game before, but I've had this game record for a couple months now and have wanted to get outside opinions on it for a while. This game was between a very good friend of mine and myself. We have no idea what our rank is or how well we're doing, but we love the game and even recently started a Go club in our community. Any input, comments or criticism would be helpful. If you have a ball park idea what our rank should be, that would be helpful too. We'd like to start playing online and knowing an approximate starting rank would be beneficial, I think.

Thank you in advance!

Fixed the link for you.

I'll review later if I have time. Just one link I wanted to drop quickly: http://senseis.xmp.net/?PagesForBeginners. This is an awesome website if you're looking to improve. Also, just playing a lot will help you get better, especially with things such as spotting [sl=atari]ataris[/sl] :).
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

A few ideas.

I'd estimate your ranks between 25k and 30k.

thelanlegend, welcome to Go and this forum! :)
If you have not finished 100 games yet, I strongly recommend you do it as quickly as possible.
The board size does not matter so much -- 9x9, 13x13, or 19x19 -- although the smaller boards
can save you time spent per game, which means you can finish the 100 games sooner. :)

Thank you for all the encouragement!

Karaklis, I appreciate you taking the time to make notes on my game. I'll be going over them for a whole and make sure my opponent gets the opportunity to do so as well.

EdLee, I'm on it! I passed a hundred quite a while back, but I still have a ways to go before 1000. (I think, I really don't know how many games I've played.) Started playing heavily around 2005 for about a year or so. The person who ran the go club then moved away as well as a couple other people, mine and another person's stones were stolen from the local coffee shop, and slowly the go playing stopped. Fast forward to about a year ago and another friend found my go board and asked to learn how to play. Bought some more stones and slowly started building up another go club in our community. This newfound responsibility of sharing go has encouraged me to make sure myself and the people who are close in strength and helping me teach continue to improve.

I appreciate everything you guys are doing to help and look forward to learning a lot from everyone at this forum!

You can see a bit of our club at www.caspergo.com

It is a good exercise to try to find the game losing move. :)

See move 238.

Thanks Bill! I really appreciate the commentary on the area at the top edge of the board. I want yo spend some more time going over your suggestions there.
