I have a question

assuming the game went like this instead and black settled his center group

Should black play a move around here to threaten to invade a or b
or should black just invade directly?

Is this something white would have used sente to defend against?
And how would W defend both spots?

Black's play seems careless, he doesn't seem to be trying very hard to find the best moves.

Interesting criticism. I don't know if I agree with it though. I just find it very hard to be authoritative on the opening, and I don't always understand it that well. Like Bill sort-of suggested, I feel more comfortable reading out and evaluating a fight than the opening.

If you were thinking about in particular, where I connected the peep instead of playing 3-3, then I agree, that move was quite slack, and I regretted overlooking 3-3 there.
