Re: Lee Sedol vs Western Pros
Caught the end of the game. Lee won by 6.5.
aaaannd on another note: go9dan emails you your password in cleartext if you've forgotten it. So if you used an important password of yours, now is the time to change it.

andy try to save everything...and lost.
all he had to do was give up some and work from outside..
i think andy should win two stones on two stone handy if plenty of time given to both..

well, yeah... they're not using secure http (https), so your password is being transmitted in cleartext anyway

Using numbers of Ed's first sgf:
I also thought maybe 58 would have been better at 74, or perhaps n6 was a bad shape. I didn't see Lee's very sharp move at p7, but once he plays that it does look that defending that group's shape was more important. It's a lot easier to find mistakes in a 1p's game with a 9p helping you
Sedol thought that 58 would have been better at 74.
Black's center group might have survived with 120 at 121 or again with 124 at 125.

Good point--that's a pretty good signal that they're doing things wrong. (for an organization of this size). I don't know if this is a rational view of mine, but I'd always assumed that you're more likely to be a victim of a hack that access stored passwords than a man in the middle attack or any other problem with cleartext transmission. I guess that's less true if you spend a lot of time on different networks, but I do > 95% of my internet activity on three networks, all of which use WPA.xed_over wrote:hyperpape wrote:aaaannd on another note: go9dan emails you your password in cleartext if you've forgotten it. You should explain to people who aren't complete nerds like us that what this means.
If a site can email your password back to you (instead of using a password reset link) when you use the 'forgot password' link, then it's very likely the password is stored in their database as text. If it was encrypted properly (salted and hashed), they wouldn't be able to email it back to you like that. They'd ask you to reset it instead.
This means that if someone hacks their site, they'll quickly have access to both your email address and password. It wouldn't even have to be a person, it could be an automated computer program, of which there are many thousands constantly hammering at public websites looking for vulnerabilities.
So make sure you're not using the same password for your email and go9dan, otherwise they'll be able to use your email address to potentially reset your other passwords (e.g. Facebook, banks etc).
This is kind of a serious problem. At a minimum it means that any of the programmers working on go9dan can probably also see what your password is quite easily. This isn't how you'd normally do things.

Re: Lee Sedol vs Western Pros
I sent one of the developers an inquiry about this concern last January. I think he said that their server(?) wasn't yet configured to handle it, but that it was on their list of things to do. I got the impression that if enough people expressed concern about a missing feature, then they may be able to move it up on the list of priorities.

After a long break, the match continues with (William) Gansheng Shi taking 2 stones tonight at 10pm Eastern time (about an hour and a half from now)
