Honinbo Series to be shown live on niconico

Post by oren »

Niconico will be showing all of the Honinbo matches live with commentary.

I've watched some of the big shogi matches there, and it's been interesting. It's great to see more Go there. One of the female kisei matches was on niconico earlier but that is a blitz game. Here are the two full day matches.

Will there be vods of this commentary? I assume they're doing this as a stream. I'll almost certainly not be able to watch this live, but it sounds interesting.

You can do reserve timeshift on it and watch it the next day. (I think this is how it works)

They don't keep it up forever though.

The reserve timeshift and watch the next day did work for me.

Thank you so much for posting these, oren!

This was a really fascinating and entertaining game. I'm very much looking forward to studying the file. I could have sworn Iyama would win after the last big ko was settled.

In his blog Takao says he felt relieved to finally win one after losing five 2-day games in a row to Iyama (he was blanked 0-4 in the 2010 Meijin).

Going by memory of what they were saying online, but I think his first 14 games against Iyama were 13-1 before going 2-2 last year?

http://igokisen.web.fc2.com/jp/honinbo.html
It says currently 17-5, so it's not far off.

It seems so. On the Honinbo competitor profile page it says they are 17-5 lifetime and 4-4 since 2011 (that's through 4/22).

In other news, Iyama lost today to Cho U in the Meijin league. This leaves Iyama with only theoretical chances to become the challenger.
Things are not going his way at the moment.

Takao takes game 3 in Kushiro, Hokkaido. He's now up in the series 2-1.
