Nick Sibicky on YouTube

Post by SpongeBob »

For everybody who was not yet aware about this: There are lots of teaching videos on YouTube by Nick Sibicky.

As his audience seems to be mainly in the DDK range, he teaches very basic stuff. I think it is definitly worth watching for kyu players - might be too basic for dan players, though.

Make sure to check him out!

I'm at a point where I probably shouldn't need the basics, but I find going over basics immensely helpful. I think I kinda skipped over them when learning the game. And every so often I run across something fundamental that I just never quite understood well.

I've watched the first few of Nick's videos and really like them. I wish I had run across them five or six stones ago. Probably would have been a lot more useful to me then. But I'm still able to get a lot out of them.

You'll always need the basics.
So don't worry about needing to watch videos intended for double kyus.
I do the same thing of reading ddk reviews and videos looking to get a better understanding of a basic I missed.

He teaches on Monday nights at the Seattle Go Center. Stop by if you're in town.
Many, if not most or all, of his videos were filmed at the Center.

His videos are good, I quite enjoy them. The material does seem to tend towards ddk level from the couple I've seen but this isn't a bad thing. Reinforcing knowledge is always worthwhile and occasionally when going over ddk stuff you'll find a blind spot of yours be it tsumego or theory or whatever. Similar I imagine to weaker dan players going over sdk material.

Thanks SpongeBob. DDK or not, I really feel like my basics are lacking so this is perfect for me.

Great resource, thanks for posting.

Doesn't seem to me as if these are lectures for just DDK. There are some game reviews of 3k, 4k, 5k players and revealing their basic mistakes is quite enlightening.

There are definitely quite a few that are relevant for my level (6k, KGS).

There is also a guy called Shygost, do a Youtube search. He has dozens of videos, and they are pretty helpful.

Yeah, I found him a couple of months ago and have been very impressed. He, Shawn Ray, and dwyrin are my favorite Go YouTubers.

I do feel that Nick's videos have the most potential to be fun and interesting because of his audience, but Dan can sometimes get on my nerves.
