Indeed, you can note that there are no such disclaimers.

Whatever! I just posted personal experience and want to know some similar stories happened to other people who tried to like Chinese go. It has nothing to do with something else. I do know some Chinese are also wonderful. My opinion is just that are there someone who was a fan of Chinese go then cheated by Chinese go equipment companies. Nothing special! Once more, I already told you why you are not welcome here!! So please out of my forum. Thanks!! In return, I will never go to your forum. Deal?

You have to say “shoo, shoo”, then they might go away.

There is also a learning curve to everything, including Go equipment and
dealing with people (and companies).

Indeed!! I agree with you.

When one takes time to understand two interacting cultures, one will know why bad things happen and, more importantly, be aware of the expectations held by each side. We Go players often try to understand our opponents' point of view; it helps inform our decisions as to which move should be made where on the board.

In general, Chinese tend to be known for their extensive experience with commerce, so fraudulent exchanges do occur, especially when an honest exchange will only leave the seller at a monetary disadvantage, and most Chinese buyers learn how to deal with the risk thereof. Also, there is the tendency to avoid saying "no" outright, especially when there is the risk of offending the listener, so "yes" can mean several things. The context of the situation is used to know what the actual meaning is. In any case the Chinese tend to place a high value on human relationships, especially family ones, and so great care is taken not to damage them in any way.

I do not know much about Finland, but since they are just as North European as, say, the Swedes and Germans, I imagine that there yes means yes and no means no. Americans also have this mentality, at least those who were born here or have lived here for a long time; the ancestors of most US citizens are of North European origin (many persons of Swedish and Finnish descent live in the Great Lakes region of North America), so the culture is similar. This means that, for example, if a certain product is no good, the customer will tell you so. If your friend thinks you did something bad to him, he'll tell you openly. Most Chinese people would never do such things unless there was minimal risk to any current human relationships.

As for the merchant who sold you the weiqi set at a very high price, it must be known that the set probably made its way through more than a few middlemen and each one took his cut, which of course was passed down to you in the final price. If you can buy directly from China, the item price is of course lower because no middleman is involved, but the shipping costs are rather high and the delivery times are long. If you live in Finland, standard shipping for a 3 Kg weiqi set can take up to 21 days. It's a little faster with priority or next-day shipping, but of course it's more expensive and, with next-day shipping, the cost is higher than that of the item.

I hear that in Finland good quality spruce is not hard to find. Perhaps you can make a good goban from locally sourced wood.

Kuopio wrote:I am China-born European. Because my parents are Chinese, so I tried to learn more things about Chinese society. And also, I prefer to buy Chinese products. Some day ago, I bought a pack of go board and stones from a Chinese company in Germany. The go board and stones are originally made in China. I spent quite a lot of money on that, but then I was told that the board and stones are not exactly the same like it should be. I was told that I spent too much on the product. So are there some people who have similar experience? Do you guys also feel that there are too many lies in Chinese society. I feel sad about this, because I am Chinese origin, but I am not proud of this at all. So sad!

1. What exactly do you mean "the board and stones are not exactly the same like it should be"? Buying a go game set from a local toy store will probably not get you the same quality as from a specialty manufacturer in Japan. In fact, you could probably even shop for a go game set from some of the largest department stores in Japan and still not find the same quality as that from a Japanese manufacturer which has made go boards and stones for over a century.
2. You say you bought your set from a Chinese company in Germany for quite a lot of money. Did you do a lot of research on go equipment before making your purchase? Do you know what to look for in high quality go equipment at the budget you have set? Perhaps you bought it from a company which charged a very high markup for items which sell slowly but which still have a market demand. Perhaps the store you bought it from is situated in a high rent district. For example, if you were to buy your go equipment from the go store in the middle of Ginza in Tokyo, you might start to think more about budget than just the best quality.
3. In any society, there will always be people out to make a fast buck and some which want to build something they are proud to sell.
4. It always pays to do extensive research on expensive purchases before you buy rather than to complain to others after the fact.

We would love to hear about your personal experience. If you tell us the company's name, and what happened to you, then we can make more informed decisions about dealing with that company in future. That would be very helpful. But it's not really helpful to tell us about how much you hate China. It's also not appropriate for these forums. Please be nice. :)

If we are to assume from your post, which you seem to be asking us to do, that all Chinese are out to swindle us with inferior products at exorbitant prices, we must also assume that all Finns are irascible, easily taken in by a seemingly good deal and quick to take offense.

Do you see why people are arguing against you?
