At least the owner of SudoCue/Sudopedia didn't try to pretend to save his forum/site, by simply not showing up at all, thereby allowing the people to move elsewhere without so much ill-feelings...

Déjà Vu wrote:I don't want to be controversial but who has bad mouthed Don? Unless I missed it, I haven't seen anyone personally bad mouth him. I think we were justified in being fed up with a bad situation, that's why we're here, but it feels like we're eulogizing Don when it's the demise of godiscussions if anything that should be mourned.
There were some not-nice things said over at Sensei's Library, but here on L19 I've seen nothing but generally positive, understanding comments about his situation and wanting to make sure we had a sustainable solution going forward. If you read some of the posts on SL, I think you'll see a little frustration with Don bubbling to the surface from several individuals. Whether expressing frustration is the same as bad-mouthing is a semantic call you'll have to make, I guess.

Re: When Will GoDicussions Come Back up?
I think anyone who read RGG before GD came along probably has enough gratitude for GD that they wouldn't likely bad-mouth Don, even if they agreed he dropped the ball. I was doubtful of GD at the beginning, but while there were worthwhile posts on RGG, it was chaos at best and insanity at worst, and GD was a *****BIG***** improvement.
I think the fact that there *is* a thriving online go discussion group is largely due to Don. It's time to move on from GD, but I'm still very grateful it was around.

LOL, no I just thought it was ironic. Like it's completely broken, but it still remembered my birthday.

Yeah, most forums do that. Otherwise I might have forgotten.

Honestly, I'm a little surprised that Don hasn't even said anything at all yet. Has he offered any kind of statement on the whole ordeal?

According to Javaness on the sensei's page, Don said he hadn't been aware that anything was wrong. Don't know more about it.

schultz wrote:topazg wrote:I think it's very sad that Don has been badmouthed, as I certainly don't think he deserved that with the time and effort he put in.
However, at the same time, he obviously doesn't have the capacity (time or energy) to steer the framework for the community any more, and I don't feel bad that we have all decided to move on. GoDiscussions.com was his baby, and he managed to make an excellent Go community when there just wasn't one. Now he can move on himself without having the stress of looking after a community he's no longer involved in, and we can have the community we've been wanting recently. Sounds like a win-win for me, and for my part I'm thankful for him for what he did - I'm not feeling guilty about the move though, it feels like a natural progression now.
This.
I completely agree.
For better or worse, we still need to thank Don for getting this community to the point it's at. If everybody hadn't been brought together and all become close, the sort of outpouring we're seeing on this forum (all the time and effort from a lot of different people!) wouldn't be here.
I hate to post just to say me too, but me too.
And not to downplay the hard work people have put in to make this site, but I find it exciting how much easier that task appears than it might have been a few years ago. I still remember the tedium of hours of typing in html in vi just have a stupid little static webpage.
