I got taken out for dim sum today. Lots of Cantonese dumplings.

For tomato sauce, I like to add chili pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic, sage, oregano, basil, mushrooms, onions, and a bit of beef. Sometimes, I cut up poblano peppers and cook them for a long time before adding the sauce, I think it mixes well.

We definitely need a cooking thread.

So hungry. No food. and then... this thread.

(Once again, I have forgotten my sack lunch on the kitchen counter.)

Then you should have do what I did because I am also. (see above).
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

I don't eat much really. I never eat breakfast, and my "lunch" and after-school snack is usually just junk food. So, my entire food intake of the day was a bunch of chips, some oreos and whippets (cookies), some lasagna for dinner, and then half of an individual-sized pizza for a midnight snack while I prepared for a Chemistry debate.

Also, thanks to those suggestions(+1'd to most of you, but I might have missed some). I am a vegetarian also, and it's always been a bit difficult to find foods/alternatives(store-bought) that actually have taste. I think it's really necessary to add in your own spices/herbs in the sauces bought from stores, they are way too mild.

Man, I hadn't even heard of Lazy Town until one week ago, when two of my friends showed me it. Apparently a lot of people have though.

.... what?

What?!

That is crazy...and now I have it stuck in my head. Thanks for sharing. ;)

Oh, and 06/10/10 - my lunch was a delicious greasy slice of pizza from the Mall food court in town. And two cheese bread sticks. And I just realized I'm pretty crazy with all the food options I eat...

That song has been a meme for a while now, as well as Lazy Town. Doesn't make it any less fun. :)

And vegetarianism doesn't necessarily entail advocacy for animal rights. You would think that someone who drops Peter Singer's name in a post wouldn't make such a blunder.

So.... uh...

About that cooking...

When it comes to vegetarianism, Chinese food has quite a lot to offer.

Vegetarian food is a whole new genre of food in China, which in fact has many of its own restaurants.

Vegetarian food goes pretty far into China's past, so they've spent a lot longer on developing imitation meats and delicious dishes.

They use things like tofu sheets, folding them or rolling them until the consistency matches meat(I honestly didn't realize I wasn't actually eating pork and fish one night), along with finely ground mushrooms. Many of these dishes become analogues to their meat-including counterparts.

If you haven't been able to find a place to try it, I suggest googling around your area for Chinese vegetarian restaurants.

Trust me, it's good stuff.
