Hi guys,
I did win this game but I really felt 'scared' during the opening.
Hence I'm seeking comments on my opening.
Is 24 correct way too invade ? My thinking was that I could attack his wall or create a living group.
Or is the position allready very bad for me at this moment ?
I'm white (tygempanda). Oh and don't look at our ratings, we are both around 3k I think (we know eachother in person).
Thanks,
Otenki

If you are going to invade then why did you play the two previous moves, which only strengthened the B wall? Instead of those moves I think it would have been better to push up and cut off the single stone. After that reduce the right side more lightly in expectation of profit at the top. Given that you still have the cut in the top left there is no need to rush to invade as you did.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

I almost knew from the phrase "I could attack his wall" that you were playing a bit close.
But kidding aside, DrStraw nailed it IMO.

Re: whats wrong with my opening ?
Take my suggestions with a grain of salt, but...
Move 12: Black chose to abandon the top left, so you may want to consider cutting and taking advantage while you can. I'm also more inclined to invade or approach the other corner first, since that way black doesn't build a wall facing his stones and create a massive moyo.
Move 15: Were you looking for the complex variations here? (if black cuts with an inside attachment/hane)
Move 20: If you are planning on invading, these pushes help black make your invasion more difficult.
Move 24: I'm not entirely sure how to deal with this situation as white, but there is a big point at F5 or invading the extension there, and black still needs to deal with the stones he abandoned in the top left.

Yeah pushing up seems like a good move here instead of my greedy teritory moves which did not gain much.DrStraw wrote:If you are going to invade then why did you play the two previous moves, which only strengthened the B wall? My idea was that the wall did not have very easy potential to make eyes so I could invade. This was a wierd way to think.
For some reason I always tend to choose the hardest path to a win, I'll try to keep t trying to play the easy moves like all of you are suggesting.
Thanks guys !!!

Walls don't need eyes. If they did they would not be walls.

Re: whats wrong with my opening ?
I guess I have been playing too much people who cannot handle walls very much too make me believe that walls can be attacked easily or even killed if they don't have easy space to make eyes or don't handle them well
It's time for me to start apreciating the power of my oponents wall I guess...
Thanks!
