Take Lessons from a True Master of the Game w/ Video Tapes!

Post by logan »

Found this ad in an old Go World issue and was wondering if anyone actually owned or had the fortune of watching these tapes?

Seems whoever holds the rights is missing out on the ripe opportunities! that await in this oft-neglected market segment.

These videos sound awesome.

The 3-stone handicap especially. Miai analysis to find weak points. (Making sure you have two ways out.)
and how to turn stones inefficient.

also the idea of discussing chinese fuseki and follow it up with common midgame ideas sounds wonderful

You could try opening the image in a tab: http://s22.postimg.org/gimbjiz01/A_True_Go_Master.jpg, and then ctrl+plus (or cmd+plus, if you’re on OS X)

I remember seeing one of these tapes many years ago. It's been such a long time that I don't remember the lessons, but the format was very poor. The tape was basically Jujo Jiang giving a lesson to class of people in North America using a large demonstration board. Periodically he would pose a problem to the class and step aside while someone played some terrible music from a CD player--I remember my father calling out from the other room to ask if we were watching some kind of adult movie.

To a first approximation the tape was equivalent to someone recording a pro lecture at a go congress.

Don't you know you'll go blind?!

On a more serious note, it's too bad they're lower quality. Around what year was the ad?

Only if the lecture was about poking out eyes.

I have the mini-chinese and a game commentary from what I think is the same series. It's quite good. The presentation could be more impressive. The video quality could also be better but the content is very good and I would have tried to purchase more but couldn't find them anywhere after a while. I thought there was a site at gomasters.com where this used to be available (not totally sure) but for a long time that site has not worked and Google Chrome claims it's a malware site. I suspect it was neglected and maybe compromised in some way.

Oh and the format for the videos I have is a close up of a wooden board with the stones being played and removed in the course of playing out the variations etc.

I think the tapes mentioned above may be related to the ones in the following page:

http://web.archive.org/web/200204071738 ... php?id=191

I would link to the current version, but my browser tells me gomasters.com is a reported attack page. Either way, I think gomasters.com is owned/operated by Mingjiu Jiang, so perhaps someone interested in the tapes could contact him on KGS.
