Michael Redmond Books on SmartGo.
Greetings all,
I just went to try and buy "Patterns of the sanrensei" by Michael Redmond on SmartGo books for my iPad and could not find it. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was now unavailable for some reason. His other books are also now unlisted.
Any info would be gratefully received.
Thanks

I just checked and I still see it listed. One thing to be aware of is that if you're sorting the list by author he will appear at the bottom due to the inclusion of his name in Japanese.
Also, as far as I'm aware he only has one book (thus far) available through SmartGo Books.

Re: Michael Redmond Books on SmartGo.
Michael Redmond has just one book in SmartGo Books, the "Patterns of the Sanrensei", which is in English and Japanese. If you tap on the flag in the top right corner and switch to Japanese books, that should make it very easy to find. Adding search to that list is on my things to do: with soon 73 books it's getting harder to find specific books.

Tip: Be careful to update the app, or you might not see the latest books.

Re: Michael Redmond Books on SmartGo.
Well, I've now located it and purchased it. Thanks for the help guys.
Was really weird.. i double checked in the English books and it wasnt there.. I switched to Japanese books and it appeared. Switched back to English again and it was still present.
Anyway.. all's well that ends well... *trots off to learn about sanrensei*
@Anders AWESOME app dude.. you have revolutionized my Go learning

Re: Michael Redmond Books on SmartGo.
I have recently bought the dead-tree version of Patterns of the Sanrensei. The reason
for reviving this thread is that owners of the SmartGo version may be able to answer the
following question about the comments on Game 12.
What on earth was meant by this text on page 128 of the printed book?
and either starting or preventing a capturing race in the lower left corner are miai.
Here is the position to which the comment refers.
The next diagram in the book discusses a (not-played) variation in which
is used to create
an enclosure at c5. I am guessing that Redmond or his ghost-writer/amanuensis has somehow been
misled by the slight similarities of the Japanese terms shimari and semeai.
That seems more likely than a native speaker of English confusing the terms capturing race
and enclosure. Even so, one usually creates, builds or makes rather than starts an enclosure.
Does the SmartGo edition have the same strange text?
This is the only mistake I have found in the book so far, apart from the notorious cover art.

Re: Michael Redmond Books on SmartGo.
The English text says: "White 6 and a shimari in the lower left corner are miai."
The Japanese text says: "白6は左下隅のシマリとの見合いの所です。"
It says it was written directly in English, so it's not a translation glitch apparently. But I share your bafflement as to how the sentence you quote could appear from Redmond's own pen.
Since the book was produced specifically for SmartGo, one has to assume a glitch in the conversion to paper.
Why is the cover notorious? It looks OK in SmartGo.

The covers are different:
Paper: http://www.hebsacker-verlag.de/patterns ... -4378.html
SmartGo: http://www.smartgo.com/booksbylanguage.htm
The SmartGo one looks much nicer to me.

I've never thought much about the Slate and Shell cover, since you do know it's fairly consistent with their other work.
