Re: Hikaru no Go...?
The video is cool, but I personally disliked the series deeply. I was on the side of the guy with the black hair the entire show. I was so mad every time Hikaru won. For me he was a cheater since the ghost helped him win and that guy with the black hair was the true Go player.

How is having a strong teacher cheating? I guess people thought he was more talented because he didn't seem to have one, but that's not a big deal since promotion is decided by who wins/loses.
I've no idea who the black haired guy is. Iirc his main rival had green hair and came from a very privileged go background.

Re: Hikaru no Go...?
Actually my favorite character was Isumi, for a somewhat similar reason. Hikaru has Sai, Akira has his father (and a study group full of strong pros). For both of them, eventual success seemed inevitable. Isumi doesn't really have anyone in his corner, and has perhaps the most struggle of any of the characters on the show. His arc studying in China is probably the best part of Hikaru no Go for me.

I think he's joking, and I'm pretty sure when he says "the guy with the black hair" he means all the extras the hikaru beats during a montage, not Akira Toya.
edit: Also, awesome find Kirby I loved it.

Re: Hikaru no Go...?
hahahah, this video is the best xD
Thanks for making today awesome so quickly.
As for me, hands down my favourite character is Kaga. Absolutely 100% Kaga.
Too bad he didn't play more.
After that I like Akira and the adult players a lot. Ogata and Kuwabara especially. And I think the adults don't get enough credit by lots of the fans.

You do not need much territory if your opponent has none.

Re: Hikaru no Go...?
A brilliant tribute.
I originally watched the whole series with dubbing because that seemed easiest. But there is a version on you tube now with the original voices and very, very good subtitles. The Japanese is great to follow. It`s done by (no surprise) a devotee calling himself hikaru shindou.
The number of people who have actually watched this version is low and in some of the episodes less than a thousand.
This is a shame because it is a totally different experience from the original dubbed one. There is much greater depth to the characters, much more nuance. For example Sai`s frustration/jealousy/fear is manifest very sharply in a way that is virtually non existentin the dubbed. In one case it even shows up what seemed to be quite a glaring error in the old version. That is, when Hikaru finally plays Touya it seemed to me that Hikaru says `he plays as fast as any top pros.` Whether I am completely correct on that or it is just fuzzy I don`t recall, but in this new version it is clearly stated by Akira about Hikaru and it makes the whole chunk feel completely different. Touya is making a major acknowledgment of Hikaru`s ability, clearly stating his level, rather than just another boring remark about how good Touya is.
Hopefully a few more people will take a look at this and get more of the real anime.
Cheers,
Buri
