Perhaps. But if this is the case, it will take a lot more than what's happened so far to be successful in baiting me.leichtloeslich wrote:Clearly darWIN is some KGS admin in disguise, baiting Kirby to ban him so said admin can go "nenene told you so" over in

Re: scoring
Ah, yes. I had not realzied he was talking about the author of Go As Communication. I guess the only remaining question is whether darwin is a child, elderly, or mentally handicapped.Bantari wrote:Anyways - he mentions Yasuda because Yasuda suggests Capture Go.
What I was trying to get him to realize is that Yasuda suggests it only for "introducing children to the game and as a therapeutic activity in institutions for the elderly and the mentally handicapped."
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

I also have a problem with the rules of Quidditch. What's the point of the other players when catching the golden snitch gets you so many points? That game is horribly designed and eventually I just couldn't stand to read about it.

Re: scoring
also I've read more about Yasutoshi, looked at some of his kifus, he says it's not just for the handicapped. although that was very kind of him to help the disabled.

Harry potter? What the heck is that? There is nothing about it on SL.darWIN wrote:the game from harry potter, honestly, have you been living in a hole in the ground?Bantari wrote:What is Quidditch???darWIN wrote:I also have a problem with the rules of Quidditch. I googled it... ok, a movie for children. I see. Interesting.
Never mind. Carry on.

Re: scoring
A good book series, actually.
But he's right. the rules of quiddich were built specifically to make harry more important to the team than he should have been.=P it was really horrible.
The case is not the same with Go. it was designed for everyone. and very well designed at that.

You do not need much territory if your opponent has none.

In a parallel universe, Harry would've been smart enough to realize the stupidity himself.Chaos wrote:But he's right. the rules of quiddich were built specifically to make harry more important to the team than he should have been.=P it was really horrible.

I like to think that some facet of the game that's totally inconcievable to us muggles, actually makes it a perfectly balanced game. XD

Re: scoring
I once said that to a girl at school that the game made no sense because what's the point of the quaffle and the bludgers if the snitch gets so many points, it's not fair, the people making points with the quaffle have worked hard for nothing, and the bludgers just sound dangerous, and she was such a big fan of harry potter, she actually got mad at me. Ridiculous.Chaos wrote:I like to think that some facet of the game that's totally inconcievable to us muggles, actually makes it a perfectly balanced game. XD
Also that book takes place in like, ancient Greece or Rome or something, I mean, a three headed dog guarding something? Cerberus was the three headed dog who guarded the gates of Hades, the underworld, just take a little from there, a little witchcraft from ancient Celtic junk, you've got a children's book I guess. And minerva is the roman name for athena, goddess of wisdom and war.
also I laughed when I read that.

Re: scoring
It appears I'm turning you into a mob. An angry mob that doesn't like their annoying scoring method challenged. Who doesn't see that was not my intention, that I was just trying to make a friendly suggestion to make the game better. You accused me of trying to do something I wasn't trying to do thus you are actually accusing yourself, or telling me, that you are an angry mob of mean nerds who I should stay away from and that I should give up learning this meaningless game.daal wrote:DarWIN - we are a bunch of nice people here, and no matter how hard you try, you won't turn us into a mob.
Ok, I'll do that. I have no need of games with rules that don't make sense held in place by faith.

Re: scoring
Well, you've got to look at it from this forums perspective.
If a kid who only just started playing basketball joined a club of basketball players, and said
"But the scoring method makes no sense! Let's score by how many times you pass to eachother!"
You would tell him he was wrong, and just needed to understand the game better, right?
Sure, his way might promote teamwork! but it isn't a good idea.
Well, I wouldn't say it isnt a good idea. (Pass-ball could be a neat concept with some more rules.)
I would say that it isn't basketball. And of course the suggestion wouldn't go over well with the community when you insisted on it. xD

Re: scoring
I don't think its my place to say anything but... I don't find any thing wrong with the rules. I love them as they are. Some games can go on with out anyone losing stones... maybe I don't know. So Territory play is important. Also with territory I think maybe it makes the game more deeper, It gives the game more complexity. If you really put your mind too it territory isn't something that's just accidentally gained, its earned through deep thought and prediction. Its like war... you invade and fight on the board and there is just so much freedom. You can go anywhere and create so many formations.
There is a lot more. The game is really, really, really, beautiful. The board is something hard to describe. Just play it.(OH GOSH. When did I become a drooling fanboy...)
