The revolution will not be televised

Post by Javaness2 »

Soon after the AGM, I expected some new sense of urgency to appear around the EGF. Nothing much seems to have happened though.

Where is the publicity around our new trainee professionals in China - very little..
I heard rumours of a new and updated website, but I see and hear no sign of that actually happening
Then I expected details of the new grand prix to appear; but as yet they have not
The new activity must need new volunteers, but I see no call for those
Maybe I am oblivious to what has been going on.

I think it is time that the EGF thinks about how to involve its members in its activities, or rather, in their activities. In this day and age, shouldn't all the countries be invited to skype meetings 3 times a year, to rid us of the once a year torture of the AGM? Can the EGF consider having its own forum for members to discuss ideas, to vote on urgent matters? From my point of view, it should be something the new EGF should consider.

Java, didn't you know - the populace has been dumbed down. It is not PC to think these days.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Sir seems to have not been involved in enough amateur organisations over the years.

Benjamin Teuber has been keeping a blog on Sensei's to document the experience of the trainees. I met four of the five (minus Lucas) two weeks ago at Li Ang's home, and I'll be seeing them again this weekend. I know that last week they were in Dalian competing in a major Chinese amateur tournament - the minimum rank to enter was 5 dan.

It is nice too see Benjamin blogging a little, it's just that I thought maybe something more visual, more marketable could appear.

The revolution in the rules commission was interesting :)

I could not agree more!

I think the program is a Major Thing in european Go, and should be trumpeted all over the place, with images, stories, experiences, and all that. If I were in charge, I would create a specific website dedicated to the program, where part of the deal the participants get is to blog about their experiences (with pictures) and about what they learn (with games). Something like Uberdude's trip blog, which I found very interesting, instructional, and inspiring.

But at least some official running commentary on what's going on and how the guys are doing, day-by-day and game-by-game is a must!

This would be tremendous for the whole european Go scene!
As it is, under the radar like that, it feels like a badly wasted opportunity to get exposure and inspire people for (almost) free.

PS>
By the way - I could not find any info on that - what are the criteria to select participants for each cycle? Is it just 5d and below 26yo? What if there is more than 5 such players? What if there is less?
