Bug when marking some fora as read

Post by TMark »

I have found it convenient, when connecting to Life19, to immediately go to the board index, select the Malkovich games and mark all Malkovich fora as read. The last couple of times I have done this, all fora have been marked as read. This is inconvenient for me, because I usually view all unread posts and do not want to have to work my way through dozens if not hundreds of postings that I don't want to read, but I can't mark them as read because all other postings then get marked the same way.

Any suggestions?

Best wishes.

This is probably a case of "my bad". I made a modification to add the "mark forums as read" link to the "View new posts" and "View unread posts" pages, and it may have broken the links to mark individual forums as read.

I will try to fix it sometime today.

OK, the "Mark forums read" on subforums should work correctly again. I've also added a global "Mark Malkovich read" link.

Let me know if I screwed it up again.

Works perfectly; you'll have to watch out, because people will start asking for a link to mark all off-topic, etc.

Best wishes.

It is perversely flattering when one's invention has become a plague upon the land.

I don't think the fix is quite right yet.

If I click on Mark Malkovich read a page comes up with the message "All forums marked as read".

After a second or so I am then taken into the Malkovich forum, the very thing I am trying to avoid. I would expect to be taken back to the Board Index.

A further fix would be appreciated.

Yeah, that's just kinda the way phpBB works. Normally, to mark a specific forum read, you have to click a link in that forum, then it returns you to where you were. E.g. normally the "Mark Malkovich read" link is the "Mark forums read" link inside the Malkovich category, so PHPbb thinks that's where it needs to send you.

You can just click on the logo to return to the forum index (it's fine to click it when you're on the "All forums marked as read" interstitial screen), or click the "View unread posts" or "View new posts" links at the top.

Changing that would actually be somewhat convoluted, and since it's just a temporary fix until we get the "ignore forum" feature, it's probably not worth it. Although I won't let that stop any other admins who are interested in playing with it.
