Loons has dropped off the grid over the past week. He seemed to be the driving force behind this. Maybe the rest of the group can pick up the slack and get some firm dates and times.

Loons seems to be very busy lately and perhaps temporarily abandoned this group. No sight of him on KGS or on the board. Perhaps someone should take up the leadership role of this group and set up something for people who are still interested. Perhaps there should also be some sort of secretary for the group who would take notes of the meeting and post on this thread afterwards for the benefit of those who could not attend.

I'm sorry, but I myself cannot commit to the scheduling of this group and my goal is not as ambitious as to reach shodan by the end of 2010.

But I have been showing off some go problems from time to time at the Godiscussions.com room at KGS. If you happen to catch me during these moments, you are welcome to join in and take a look at some go problems which are mostly taken from Asian books which readers here probably have limited access to. No firm commitments but just good fun from time to time. Cheers.

I can't take the lead of this group either, because I'm already involved on a french forum and I don't have enough time to make it run good.

But I have some exercices from my school of Go (tsumegos - easy and hard, yose problems, pro games, commented games by the teacher...)

So if someone is interested in taking the lead of this group, I'll be glad to put all of this in KGS files and give him.

To throw in some new ideas: What about making this independent of time differences by using this forum for studying?

Obviously, we can't play games here. So, it would end with everyone posting his/her KGS username, so that we can find each other online and play there. Maybe review it afterwards and/or post it here (Game Analyze subforum), to get a views from other people.

As for problems: We could post Tsumegos here, but then we have to be careful about not violating copyright issues. Or we could use uknx80's problems, he has 176 on his page. Browsing through goproblems.com might be an option, too.

I think, that's as far as we can go right now. The main work of studying you will still have to do yourself. Else we have to find a time, where a lot of people can come. I still like this:

Code: Select all

UTC:     Sat 20:00-23:00
Europe:  Sat 22:00-01:00
US-East: Sat 16:00-19:00
US-West: Sat 13:00-16:00
NZ:      Sun 08:00-11:00

Hey dudes, sorry I've been AWOL - I got pretty sick and then I had exams! But I'm done now. We will meet this weekend! At Li Kao's time, though I'm very sorry some us may not be able to make it. I'll edit the first post to reflect this presently.

Certainly we don't want to exclude people who can't meet at that time ; I think the 2nd meeting time idea is probably good, and yeah, using this forum a bit! But I prefer to not post copyrighted tsumego on here obviously...

Magicwand - the 1v1 Malkovich room got too crowded for me I'm afraid, I meant to message you about it but never got there -_-

This.

* I consider times from 8AM to 1AM acceptable during the weekend.

* I'd suggest starting at UTC Sat 20:30

Although this is a minor detail with no importance, I would like to point out that there are some parts of Europe that are UTC+3 instead of UTC+2.

My god, I thought the ambitious goal of 1d in 2010 was just the right thing for me as kgs 3k. Now I spent two weeks of studying and I'm almost back to 4k.

I was often told that my main flaws were to be found in the middle game, so I read through Attack and Kill and am currently readig James Davies's Tesuji (on page 140). I have a 1p teacher reviewing one of my games every two weeks, I'm taking some irregular lesson's by other teachers, I watch all KGS+ Lectures, I only play slow games and review them myself afterwards. Yet this game just puzzles me more and more. :-?

I need some barrier breaking device! :ugeek:

I'd try a better Tesuji book. "Tesuji" is good, out of question, but at 3 Kyu you usually don't get any new informations out of it and the problems, except the ones in the last chapter, are not challenging and more importantly far too few.
"Get Strong at Tesuji", which has 534 quite easy problems for your level, or "501 Tesuji Problems" are very good books to train your mind on finding the best local moves.

For everything else, it seems you already have all the needed resources.
