The unlucky win

My opponent lost on time in this game which was unfortunate because it would have been interesting to see if there was a way to somehow sufficiently reduce whites whopping influence and miraculously escape with my life also. Felt I mishandled the upper right corner letting white build another large wall to go with the other one. Reviewing the game it felt like white made some decent plays trying to build said influence and that I played right into those plans by answering those plays far to often. Only thing to say in my defense is that I like games where both colors are crammed into every nook and cranny of the board and dislike the sort of play where each side aims for large uncontested expanses of territory. Probably there is a tremendous amount to learn to be able to play this way effectively. Thanks heaven I can take it one game at a time.

Here's my review.

I think black could win from the end here. You had some good moves. Overall I think you need to work on assessing what is most important on the whole board in the opening. When considering the local position for joseki, also take the global position into account.

Awesome, thanks guys! Some very illustrative and instructive things for me in all three reviews (happy I chose the game for one). Where am overly worrying about the status of my groups and trying to split or breakthrough my opponent when I could be taking big or even urgent points elsewhere was something I gained a better understanding of and so hopefully will have a little better feel for avoiding some of those mistakes going forward.
