Hello from Greensboro, NC
I have been playing go off an on for a little over 8 years now. Due to the infrequency I have played the game in the last few years my abilities have not improved much over that time. I am trying to play more regularly again on KGS and IGS and hoping to find some people in my local area to play with as well.

The AGA website (usgo.org) is currently down so I can't look it up, but there was a Triad Area Go Club. I'm not 100% sure if it's still in existence. I know there are at least a handful of players up in that area.
There's also the Triangle Go Group, which has weekly meetings in Durham, and tournaments a few times a year (http://www.trianglegoclub.org/).

Re: Hello from Greensboro, NC
I was born in Greensboro and lived there most of my life, including about the time I got into Go a few years ago! Unfortunately I'm presently in the cold north.
By the way, if you're looking for a potential recruitment pool for players, check out the Yachting Club at Guilford College (it's not actually a Yachting Club). I was a member for a number of years and it's an all-purpose geek/nerd club. If you can get in touch with the Officers (the email address is yachting@guilford.edu), ask if you can make an announcement at one of their meetings. While I was there, it wasn't uncommon for outside organizations/individuals to make announcements advertising their events or organizations.
Anyway, I know there's a great community of geeks in the area, some of whom would be happy to learn a new game. Best of luck with it!
EDIT: UNCG also has a geek club called SF-Cubed or the Science-Fiction and Fantasy Federation. I don't know much about them but they might have some Go players/have some people interested in trying.

Re: Hello from Greensboro, NC
Wow thank you both for your excellent and informative replies.
I will attempt to make it down to Durham at some point, I just can't justify 1.5 hour drive for go on a regular basis.
I will most certainly contact those clubs to try to find some interest.

Re: Hello from Greensboro, NC
The triad go group was inactive last I heard. My daughter lives in Winston Salem and I visited the club a couple of times at its meeting in WS. But there were very few people there and I think they reach the point where they were saying let us know if you plan on being there so that we know whether or not to go.hyperpape wrote:The AGA website (usgo.org) is currently down so I can't look it up, but there was a Triad Area Go Club. If you PM me I will give you the e-mail address of the guy who ran the club but I am not going to publish it here in case he does not want me to.
BTW, I am about an hour north of you, in VA, and am in the area frequently.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).
