Eng midgame (almost) went to hell

Post by otenki »

Hey guys !

I would like to know what your move would be at 62 instead of my bad attachment.
I know the group ended up living but it does not feel like it is a very reliable way to play.
Should I just grow my moyo with something like P12 ?
Another idea of me was to play p9 with the follow up of R8/10 but this felt risky since he can try to make miai of attacking this stone or reducing by playing somewhere around tengen.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks!

The boshi, P-09. Take command of the whole board. ;)

For follow-ups, think plays like P-12, M-08, R-12, R-05.

If White plays something like tengen, then you attack him. Not the other way around.

I think the attach and crosscut could be ok, but after white extends play the p9 cap. You don't mind if white defends the lower right now with q7 as you have a guaranteed tripod group life in the corner when you want it. Sometimes you have to worry that white might answer the cap with r5 to secure the corner but this board you are happy with that as you have huge centre potential (and are ahead anyway after the success on the left). You are ahead, so simplify the game. The only way you can lose is making a heavy group that dies so don't give white a chance to try to kill something.

PS o16 is slow with the tight pincer

Thanks a lot for the answers, exactly what I wanted to know.

@Uberdude: Indeed I should not care about the aji and omit o16 but I felt I could do this in a 2stone handi game, I'll try to find my courage next time and not play it :-)

Cheers !

Or don't play the one space low pincer. ;)
