It came down to ko... I think

Post by chef »

I played this game recently and at the end I reviewed it with my opponent. We were both wondering if there was a way to kill his black group at the end. It all came down to who would win the ko (I think). That, plus, I'm sure I made mistakes all over, so any other comments are truly appreciated. I played white

Hi chef,

:w12: is a very strange feeling; of course you want to get ahead at P13 ! :)
:w15: feels like overplay. You already have a big weak group, you have time to get cut like this ?
:w22: is unbearable.
:b25: B should just S15 and directly kill the right group.
:b31: is bad basics: usually we want to kill from the outside: hane T15 (proverb, there's death in the hane).
:b33: allows you to live because :white: T15 is sente. B should've just connected directly at R16.

Hi chef, for :w22:, usually the tesuji feeling here is the cross cut R10.
But if nothing here works and W dies, it's because :w15: was overplay.

Even after missing the kill at 160, White should have connected at G15 with 176. White still has T18 in the upper right as a ko threat plus internal threats at A13, the throw in at D10, and (after Black captures) the atari at E9. I think I'd rather be White than Black here.

After white 196, I'm counting 6 black liberties to 3 white ones, so I don't think it came down to ko. Unless there's something I'm missing or you're talking way before that point.

Also, shouldn't :w10: be at q15? I hear that's a thing for when the kicker ignores a move over there.
