I think I came up with a compromise. 4mm rods that fit in the space underneath a stone on a star-point. Maybe copper or black * ?
I also attatched some pics of the materials I intend to use (the spheres for the board are * plated 10mm, black stones are obsidian and white stones magnesite 8mm)
As for the background: I'm using an old version of SketchUp (I downloaded it while Google owned the program, It's THAT old) and I have no idea how to change it. I can send you the sketchup file if you want me to. Maybe I'll make a new model with fancy textures and stuff in Maya if I find the time but untill then the quick and dirty sketchup model will suffice.
