Moving to Eugene
Hey Folks,
So, the gf and I are moving to Eugene, OR come August, and I was just curious if anyone from on here is located in the vicinity. It looks like Corvallis has a lot of members, so I was thinking of swinging by.

Re: Moving to Eugene
As a matter of fact I happen to live in Eugene. Welcome! I hope you enjoy the area. What's bringing you here? UofO?
Go Clubs: The Eugene Go Club has sort of come and gone over the years, and while I haven't been lately, it appears to be back in action. Info at http://www.eugenego.org/ It meets early Tuesdays, and while I haven't been lately, I hope to get there one of these weeks.
Corvallis does, indeed, have a very active club. I don't know of online info, other than whatever is on the AGA site. And Portland has plenty of Go activity.
Anyway... feel free to query me on any Eugene questions you might have. PM me if you want an e-mail address for such purpose.

Thank you! Yes, UofO, my girlfriend is starting up there in the fall, and I've been consulting for a company based in Portland for a while, this means I can actually swing by the office occasionally
It would be great to pose some Eugene questions! Truth be told, neither my girlfriend nor I have ever been there, and while we're starting to get a feel for the landscape (Finding apartments via cl), we are fully prepared for the possibility that we might not know what we're doing
(Continuing via PM)

Re: Moving to Eugene
I suspect you will find oregon to be a lush paradise of rich greenery. I suspect the lifestyle pace will be different, perhaps a bit slower. Best of luck.
I remember Beaverton, just outside of Portland being a wonderful place. I truly miss it there.

Re: Moving to Eugene
Just got back from vacation and saw this thread. Enjoy Oregon!
And make sure to stop by Powell's in Portland on Tuesday evenings when you can. We have a good club there. We have a cluster of people around 1k-1d, and there are a few stronger dans who show up fairly often as well.

Re: Moving to Eugene
I had an idea:
Have all the people driving to congress from the east coast drop by and load up some of your stuff. Then, after congress is over, all the people in the northwest take some of your stuff when they leave Denver and take it to Eugene. You have no moving van expenses, and you get to play at congress.

Re: Moving to Eugene
Welcome to town, shapenaji!
A word of warning: The Eugene Go club website has a horrible curse of "being out of date." Sometimes it'll be accurate, sometimes not.
There is occasionally a bit of discussion in the EGC Google group, which might indicate whether or not the times or locations on the website are accurate. (These forums would work too, but I'm not sure how many of the members are also member here)

Re: Moving to Eugene
Thanks for the link, It seems that a few people are meeting up tomorrow at 8 am (8 am, really? are you guys really go players?), I might stop by that, and then stop by Corvallis in the evening.

Re: Moving to Eugene
yeah, that early morning thing is rough. I've made it once only since it started. Actually, my club attendance over the past few years has just been that once, in spite of all my intentions to play more. Maybe this Friday evening, I'll drag my sorry butt over to Cafe Roma.
