Richmond, VA go club

Post by Nathanl »

The last go group in Richmond died a few years back. However, there is a new chess club that says go players are welcome. I figure having a welcoming venue with possible converts there is a good start for a club. On the off chance a central VA resident reads this, come out and join me! I'll bring the go sets. https://www.facebook.com/RVApieces That's the group I'm piggy-backing off of. Hope to see some of you there. Feel free to comment or message me with any questions. Thanks!

3 excited members so far. We decided to meet every other week and are changing venues away from the chess club. As always, anyone in or near Richmond just let me know.

Good luck. Perhaps you can attract some of the old players back. Is Bill Cobb still around? I am sure he will have contact information.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

He's still selling books, so I would presume so. I haven't seen him in a year or two, though.

Thanks, I heard he's in town but have never met him. I know his business is out of his house, not a stop by type of thing, As soon as we get the new venue confirmed I'll send him an email to see if he knows anyone who may be interested. I'm going to put up flyers at the university and the board game shop here too.

Also got www.richmondgo.com up and running and registered as an AGA club.

If you build it, they will come!

Cool. I haven't played go in years but you're in the rva area; I will have to check it out. I also made a post on reddit's rva page and on facebook's go players page because I recall seeing one or two people asking about go in rva on there.

Thanks for coming out! That last game you witnessed was rough, it was actually a game our first time around.

5 people, not a bad turnout. I think we can get a dozen soon!
