Japanese Weekly Go Publication (12/15/2014)

Post by Kirby »

An article I wrote was published in the 12/15/2014 edition of the Japanese Weekly Go publication. Probably I should not provide the image due to copyright, but on page 18, I wrote an article discussing a Japanese pro's visit to the Seattle Go Center for a workshop (he's known as "Kuma"). My name is listed in English as the author.

As most of the readers here are not from the Seattle Go Center, and many may not subscribe to weekly go, it may not be that interesting. Still, I wanted to share, as it may be one of the first pieces of writing that I've had published - and it's definitely the first Japanese text that I've written that's been published. So it is somewhat interesting to me.

Anyway, cheers! And if you're ever in the Seattle area, please stop by the Seattle Go Center!

Just curious, do you remember the restaurant? :)

I met both during Nihon Kiin Summer Camp in 2014, and it was a lot of fun chatting with them.

I helped translate for Kuma during the Seattle workshop, but he didn't really need much help. He came pretty well prepared to give lectures in English.

Nihon Kiin regularly publishes
20 page (with ads) newspaper every week called Shukan Go
~200 page monthly magazine called Gekkan Go World (with addins for tsumego)
and another ~100 page monthly magazine aimed at lower kyu players called Igo Mirai

All are available when published immediately at https://e-gobooks.nihonkiin.or.jp/ which is nice. I actually had been working through my backlog of weeklies when I ran into that article and sent it to Brian. :)

Amazing, congrats.

Now that it's printed and permanent, anything embarrassing you're noticing in your writing?
