Win-and-Continue Variation

It has been a while since I heard of some hoping that, one day, North American and European players could compete in win-and-continue formatted tournaments (similar to the Nongshim Cup) against Asian pros (Only Korea, China, Japan, Europe and North America have a professional system). So it seemed to be interesting to "speculate" different ways this may possibly be achieved. A random simple possibility, for example:

Two simultaneous WnC brackets could be held; every time a team loses, it switches place with the losing team in the counterpart bracket. This seems effective if there are only two or three people in each team. Two matches every round makes commentating busier (an incentive to increase time controls. By the end, two teams will be left in the "final" match (may be a positive for some).

(As noted earlier, it seems to be best if there are two in each team. Easier to organise, as well )

The problem with American/European pros playing Asians is they would get pulverized if the Asians put out their top players which they presumably would if they wanted to beat the other Asians (or wouldn't they bother unless there was big prize money?). I would however like to see an American vs European pro tournament, either some multi round team event or a win-and-continue. Each has 4 pros so that works well. And it could be online with generous time limits rather than guzzling gasoline and costing big bucks to fly some fairly irrelevant bodies around containing the brain which actually plays the Go. There were already some USA vs Europe youth matches on KGS.

I'd be interested in seeing this as well. There is something to be said for having all of the competitors in the same timezone, however, assuming decently long time limits.

Carrying on with that idea, it may also be interesting to hold (online) an Am-Eu Champion, match, (in similar style to the bilatereals in Asia such as the China-Korea Tengen) with The European Champion playing against the winner of the Masters. Maybe one could relay the moves onto a real board for the players (if you can overcome time control issues).

One downside is that it would be hard to implement time setting anywhere near those of either the masters or the EC, it seems.
