Re: Kirby's Study Journal
Interesting! Not the paper (about which I haven't the foggiest) but the author. Thanks.

Okay, so he plays chess. What's the big deal?
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

But, sorry, couldn't resist. After all, this is a games forum so what other reason could there be for posting?

Well, Urschel was mentioned somewhere else in this forum for being a football player who wrote a math paper. I assume it’s mostly to document the fact that a person with a big and muscular body and who plays a very physical sport is not necessarily a stupid brute; I think it was just to dispel such prejudices.But, sorry, couldn't resist. After all, this is a games forum so what other reason could there be for posting?
<edit>
Oh, and of course it will probably also be b/c 1) Football is a game, and 2) this Football player apparently not only loves maths but also Chess.

I was talking the other day to someone who had actually seen Chess Boxing happen.

Re: Urschel's math paper
A friend of mine is a chess and Go player, and used to be a chess boxing referee. She no longer does it - a friend of hers (a chess player, not a boxer) was punched whilst refereeing at another event.
