Two attack-oriented handicap games.

Post by tekesta »

Hello again! Here are two games for you to review. In the first one, I opened on F17 and went for a more-aggressive-than-usual style of play. Even so, I may have been overly worried about cutting off White's groups, even if it meant letting White get something substantial. As well, White killed a large Black group at the top. Still, I was able to win the game by 13.5 points. In the 2nd game I opened on F16, played even more aggressively (in accordance with the spirit of stones on the 4th line), and won the game by 55.5 points. One factor was cutting off a large White group at the centre top of the board.

I know these are won games, but I am not yet at SDK level and I would like help with my tactics, so much obliged in advance for your input.

Some comments on the first game:

Honestly, I'd strongly recommend you play real people, as the bot is making a lot of weird moves and mistakes that you don't want to make your subconscious think are normal.

This bot, this strength setting. That doesn't mean that a different bot or even this bot at a different strength setting would be making those weird moves. Note the the recommendation "play real people" has the same problem if that was just one human opponent << you be learning all his or her bad habits as normal play, and at this level, going to be plenty of those >>

You could try different programs.

You could try upping the strength of the program and take more handicap stones. Remember that you have to take the listed strength of the programs with a grain of salt. See what happens if you put the strength up a level but still take just three stones.
