Esfera chess (sphere)

Post by EdLee »

Quite bit of effort on this spherical chess variant:

Esfera Chess by Squz

( I don't know if it's also on Android. )

Gives an idea how difficult it is to transition from 2D to 3D;
plus new issues to deal with.
( This app doesn't display captured pieces, which is useful for beginners. )

Screenshot of starting position:
( On an ancient iPhone 4S. )

Looks cool, but 2D chess is already complicated enough to get lost. I can't imagine calculating in 3D, it's an exersize in futility.

An interesting thing is everything still happens on a 2D plane.
( A torus would be another. :) )
