Definitely not British usage. Partly because we have neither the plant, nor that word for the drink (it's more commonly called "Buck's Fizz" here), and partly because our derogatory terms are much harsher.

Well, I’ve heard it quite a few times but can’t remember from which corner of the anglo-saxon world the speakers came from. I’d assume, though, that they all had some interest for botanics …

In Germany “being a Mimosa” is a commonly used metaphor.

If you expect certain behaviour from others, you set yourself up for disappointment. Better not to have expectations.

You expect others to be nice to you, or to greet you, or to play with you, or to not play trick moves, or to like your posts or to respond to your posts etc. That's a lot of potential disappointments.

You can control your own actions and reactions, but not those of other people.

Since we don't have a stoicism sub-forum, I guess this is as a good a place as any.

I'm with you, though. Online I've been insulted, told to play faster, told to play slower, propositioned for sex, accused of sandbagging, accused of reverse sandbagging, refused proper counting for games I've won on the board, and suffered escapers. Someone who omits greeting or any chat is refreshing in comparison.
