I'm wondering if people think they could live as white against someone of their own skill level. Skip to move Black 143, I think you'll find it interesting!

Thinking like a go player during a game of chess is like bringing a knife to a gun-fight. Thinking like a chess player during a game of go feels like getting knifed while you're holding a gun...

Hi Joel,
Happy 2016.
At one end of the spectrum, ~30k, we know the answer.
At the other end (and possibly long before it), we also know the answer (and the two "eyes" at A19 and T1 not necessary).
It's an interesting curve, the in-between parts: curious to know the shape of the curve if we plot the probability vs. the level.
Happy 2016.

Re: Could you live?
The two eyes are there just to prevent the off chance of black running low on liberties. The idea is for white to live in the center. But probably not necessary, nonetheless. Also, I set this up against my computer program and put it on the highest level (which claims to be 1 dan, doubt it) and I can't even get the program to make a move. It obviously calculates its odds at close to zero. I even tried giving the program a 292 point komi so that it would realize it could win if it just lived and it still just passes... Happy new year to you as well, Ed!

I think I remember hearing that some people played this game starting with White playing two moves. It's too easy for Black otherwise.

I thought the Korean pros thought it was easier for white to live. I recall watching a video of Svetlana Shikshina 1p living against another female pro.
