Go Teachers' Workshop accepting applications

Post by Hsiang »

The Iwamoto North American Foundation (INAF) announced jointly with Nihon Kiin (NK) the establishment of a Go Teachers’ Workshop, to be held in Tokyo in October. The Workshop is intended for people with interest in implementing Go into school or university curriculum. The sponsors will cover most of the expenses for the attendees. Content of the weeklong workshop includes training sessions on Go instruction and organization; visits to Japanese educational institutions that have Go installed into their curriculum; lectures on Japanese Go history and culture; group discussions on implementing Go education; and pro teaching games. For more details and application procedure, see http://www.inaf-go.org/2016/02/applicat ... -workshop/.

Am I right in assuming that sponsorship is only available for American attendees?

Yes. For now the applications are accepted from U.S. and Canada only.

If it is designed for people to implement Go into school or university curricula then I would not think October would be a good time. Those who are in a position to implement it would have school commitments. Surely it would be better to do this during the summer months.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Very good! :D

If we are talking about incorporating go into college curricula, then combinatorial game theory would be a natural part of the curriculum. :)

Good suggestions.

The October time frame is the choice of Nihon Kiin, based on the availability of their team. For us, of course the summer would be preferable. Hopefully we can change that in future versions.

Likewise the workshop content is restricted by the available instructors. There are many new hot topics about Go and mind sports in general, it's quite possible that NK may add more contents as the date draws closer.

A reminder: application for admission into the joint Iwamoto North American Foundation - Nihon Kiin Go Teachers’ Workshop will end in two weeks, on June 30.

The Workshop is intended for North American nationals with interest in implementing Go into school or university curriculum.
