North America will be represented by its first homegrown pro Andy Liu, and its most recent, Eric Lui.
My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle

Mateusz Surma 1p from Poland should also be playing in the Ing cup as that was the reward for coming 2nd in the European Professional Go Championship 2016 (Fan Hui came first and also got Ing cup place, Ilya Shikshin came 3rd and got Chunlan Cup place).

(If you count the players trout listed from Asia there are 26 which includes the winner/runner-up so there is space for 28+2-26=4 from NA/Europe.)

Disappointed to see no Iyama Yuta again! Deja vu ... viewtopic.php?p=99822#p99822

His 3rd Judan title match game is on the 14th April and 4th if he needs it is 20th so that is a scheduling conflict, though I'd expect him to win the 3rd game (and thus get the simultaneous big 7) so the 4th game wouldn't be needed.

They are both pro. Eric this year in January, and Andy in Aug 2012

Thanks. So NA and EU each gets two players. I got confused by the original post saying "round of 28" - actually there are 30 players in total.

2 players (winner and runner-up) are seeded to 2nd round without going through 1st round.

I once scribed a game between Andy Liu and Eric Lui. After an amazingly fast ko at the end which I could barely follow, I gave up my scribing aspirations.

I am amazed and pleased that Europe and North America get two reps each. I am sure there must be grumbling about that somewhere though. Much like when the seventeenth best European team complains about missing the football World Cup when some "clearly inferior" Central American country qualifies.

Ilya Shikshin beat Wang Yuanjun 6p at the WMSG a few years ago, so maybe Matesuz has some chance. He posted about arriving in Shanghai on his blog: http://mateuszsurma.pl/en/

I'm so glad we have these forums. There's literally no where else to find information about pairings for this tournament.

I'd mostly agree with Solomon's predictions but think I would go for the Chinese not Korean players in a few of those close match ups: Tuo over Weon, maybe Gu over Park, that's basically even to me, and Lian slightly over Kim.
