counting howto

Post by hejackedbonsai »

Dear Community,

I am bloody beginner with Go. Most recently me and a friend have played on 19x19 and at the end we were not sure how we can count. Can you please help here a little including explanation?

Please find the screen capture of our final game situation after we've both passed.

In this case the game is not finished so it cannot be counted. There are still plenty of places where both players can enlarge their territory and/or reduce the opponent's (and there is a problem in the upper left, black's three stones should have been removed from the board since they do not have any liberty).

Once boundaries are closed, i. e. when neither player can enlarge/reduce territory, then can the game be counted.
