I have a rival who's just about my rank in the local go club. I should seriously be taking white by now. We both like to talk about how the other is going to get destroyed. :)

There are actually two guys in the local club who are the same strength as me and who are fairly active at the club, so we play quite often against each other. In the last tournament we all played I beat them both, which gave me great satisfaction.

It's a lot easier to motivate myself to get better if I have a rival. I'm currently looking for a Go rival.

I had a friend who beat me about 25 times in a row in chess. I studied and studied, and eventually caught up to him. Then he moved away. I've been stagnant ever since.
My plan to become an SDK is here.

I do have a few rivals. Some know that they are, others don't:
chrollo(may have forgotten)1-4
ColdFront(Doesn't know)0-1
pilgrim2(Doesn't have a registered account and doesn't know)

I have a couple of players around my skill level at my local go club. Right now it seems I might've pulled a stone ahead of them, but if I'm not careful I'm sure they'll shoot right past me again. I really think it does wonders to your game when you have some serious competition.

I used to always lose against trikyou on kgs too. He plays many unusual moves which I don't know how to counter.

If you are who I think you are: we'll see about that!

You haven't played me after the bitter loss at the tournament. After that I've been on fire on kgs, rising 2 stones in strength in rapid succession. I'm eagerly awaiting a rematch. :)

I have a rival, and he knows that I consider him one. The fact that he beats me with 6 stones doesn't change things. :P
I always try to reduce the handicap, and he tries to increase it. It's a good motivation, and I don't really have a rival around my rank.
